Ted Koppel tells Sean Hannity he is bad for America
(http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ted-koppel-tells-sean-hannity-he-is-bad-for-america/)
From the interview:
“You’re cynical.”
“I am cynical,” said Koppel.
“Do you think we’re bad for America? You think I’m bad for America?”
“Yeah.”
“You do? Really?”
“In the long haul I think you and all these opinion shows --”
“That’s sad, Ted. That’s sad.”
“No, you know why? Because you’re very good at what you do, and because you have attracted a significantly more influential --”
“You are selling the American people short.”
“No, let me finish the sentence before you do that.”
“I’m listening. With all due respect. Take the floor.”
“You have attracted people who are determined that ideology is more important than facts.”
In a series of tweets, Hannity later accused CBS of offering “Fake Edited News.”
Ted Koppel told Sean Hannity to his face that he's bad for America because his ideology s more important than facts. Hannity, the guy who aimed a gun at a coworker after an argument, had a twitter tantrum and called it fake news.
Not only is Hannity calling any news fake an irony, but he was calling his own words fake. This probably makes him an official member of the Trump bubble.
Here's the interview. Hannity keeps interrupting Koppel's truth bombs. He looks furious, which would account for the twitter tantrum.

Koppel has balls. He told this insane nut -- who was probably packing -- right to his face that he was bad for America. It needed to be said, and he said it. There needs to be more sane people like this... willing to tell the truth. People willing to say a lie is a lie, or a con is a con, or a cover up is a cover up, or a bad influence is a bad influence. If they don't, then maybe they are fake news.

Hannity is what he is - he stirs the pot and he's not terribly concerned with truth but garnering viewership. Koppel is from a different era of journalism. Hannity is an 'entertainer' and Koppel a 'journalist'. There was a time when people realized that no single view could dominate a country and parties compromised for the general good. Not so much now. There is a trend toward the exacerbation of the political divisions in America - to what end? Violence, revolution or bifurcation of America along political lines? There are certainly some people who would like to see America carved up into distinct polities, but that would actually spell the end of the United States of America because a nation cannot exist without an overarching sense of political unanimity.

Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny needed each other. They were the last to know.
Ted Koppel was relevant for 444 days. He capitalized on the Iranian hostage crisis and ushered in the kinds of programming we have now. In his heyday he was pretty much the only show in town. Now he's just Howdy Doody and Rachel Maddow and Sean Hannity are doing what he started. They've been on the scene for a hell of a lot longer than 444 days.

He came from a time when establishment TV news was your choice whether you got it from ABC, NBC or CBS. They all talked the same talk.

Ted Koppels opinion would be more relevent if he had mentioned other cable news people as being bad for america along with Hannity.
He skipped over all the ragers on CNN and MSNBC, he skipped all the fake news and flops.
If he would have said cable news is bad for america I would have agreed with him

Interesting that someone called out Fox. "You have attracted people who are determined that ideology is more important than facts." While their news isn't completely fake, it is biased and unbalanced baloney much of the time. I often watch it to see how they will slant some issue. It is interesting propaganda as topics take sides rather than analysis. Equivalency is often the rhetorical tactic. Consider too Trump pays no taxes and uses your taxes to fly and golf at Mar-a-Lago, when Pres Obama golfed it was seen as wasteful, he should have been working. Something changed? Or now Trump wants his son-in-law to make Gov a business? Given Trump's business record, that may not be a good thing? He has already failed his Trumpcare and his ban is unconstitutional, will he do anything except play his base with religious like rallies? Hard to say, failure so far. And so it goes....

Koppel had a great point. This isn't conservative talk radio, but a national opinion show that can influence millions of people. FOX's "we need to kill them" rhetoric is downright dangerous. They are not "fair and balanced" whatsoever -- they are highly partisan. That's fine by me (MSNBC is also partisan), but divisive rhetoric is what concerns me, and FOX is full of it. Trump seems to get all of his news from FOX, and he seems to be making policy from this news. This gives FOX a greater responsibility to be inclusive.... but I can't see that ever happening.

Saw the interview yesterday and was thinking of posting.
Is it so that promoting ideology is bad for America?
Don't rush to answer as I've always seen Hannity as a closeted bleeding and often bleating heart liberal.
So is promoting ideology, left or right, bad for America?
And then I though but wait is it really ideology and not simply party partisanship? So then the question becomes is promoting partisanship bad for America?
And this is the media, not like it's you or me. Is the media pushing party bad for America?
Is the media for us or against us?
