http://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/music/soundgarden-frontman-chris-cornell-dead-52-n761391

He was 52.

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell died suddenly late Wednesday, his spokesman told NBC News.

The grunge pioneer died in Detroit after performing there earlier in the evening, according to representative Brian Bumbery. The exact circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately clear.

"His wife, Vicky, and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause," Bumbery said in an email.

"They would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty."

A very talented young man who died way before his time. The rock world will miss him greatly; May he rest in peace.

I often heard the tunes of Soundgarden coming from my son's room.

RIP, Chris Cornell.

All of those grunge guys will get to rub elbows backstage with bethere in June. They are big fans of the Crimson King, as is the master.

The grunge scene was vibrant when i moved to Portland in 1991.

Saw a lot of good concerts in the 90's - grunge and otherwise.

I would have been around 13/14, 8th/9th grade at that time. Was huge on grunge and alternative rock.

I didn't realize Soundgarden was grunge, I did like a few of their songs, but, wasn't really a fan of grunge, for the most part.

Set the house on fire with the candles on the birthday cake! I don't celebrate birthdays, usually, but, I still expect gifts!

A guy who seemed to have everything. A career, family, philanthropist. I liked his music.

On another note...I'm well into my 60th year. And I've got nothing.

Suicide huh? I never understood how a person could get to the point of doing away with themselves. I find it incredibly selfish, do they even think of their families?

Unfortunately, by the time someone is in the frame of mind to do something like that, they are convinced that it is best for everyone who cares about them... to just be gone. It's hard to understand unless you have been there, but they usually feel as though they are a burden on others or an embarrassment for others. The mind can do strange things to you.

Sometimes you are worth more to your family dead. I'd like to see that last show.

Touring with a band is fun, but it is also very hard. Sometimes it isn't even fun.

Audioslave Live in Cuba is a very good concert film and I recommend seeing it with a good audio and video set-up reproducing it.

Wow. I hesitate to describe it. You should judge for yourself. The last song he plays is Zep's "In my time of dying."

'In my time of dying, I want nobody to mourn
all i want for you to do is take my body home
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
Jesus, going to make up
Jesus, going to make up my dying bed
Meet me, Jesus, meet me
Meet me in the middle of the air
If my wings should fail me, Lord
Please meet me with another pair
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
Jesus, going to make up'
