Comey Debunks NYT Report About Trump Campaign Having Repeated Contacts With Russians

Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.
American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said. The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.
The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation. But the intercepts alarmed American intelligence and law enforcement agencies, in part because of the amount of contact that was occurring while Mr. Trump was speaking glowingly about the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin.
Sen. James Risch (R-Idaho) on Thursday asked Comey if he remembered the article.
Comey said he did; “It was about allegedly extensive electronic surveillance,” he said.


Risch noted that after the report came out, Comey “sought out both Republican and Democrat senators to tell them that, hey, I don’t know where this is coming from, but this is not factual.”
Risch told Comey: “So the American people can understand this, that report by the New York Times was not true. Is that a fair statement?”
“In the main – it was not true,” Comey said. “The challenge -- and I’m not picking on reporters -- about writing stories about classified information is that people talking about it often don’t really know what is going on. And those of us who actually know what’s going on aren’t talking about it. And we don’t call the press to say, hey, you got that thing wrong about this sensitive topic. We just have to leave it there.”

Today I saw that Comey verified that on several occasions he told Trump that he was not under an investigation, as Trump claims. He also disclosed that Trump never did order or pressure him to shut down the Russia investigation, as Trump claims. He also had to admit that Trump did not direct him to stop the Flynn investigation, as Trump claims.

He told us that he "memorialized" his conversations with Trump because he did not trust him, but we already knew that.

We also discovered that Lorretta Lynch ordered Comey to mislead the public in reference to the criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton's mishandling of classified material.

What else?

Oh Yeah. He admitted that he was the source for specific leaks to the media. He possibly admitted to committing a felony on that one.


So, what we really learned today is that Comey has no balls.

Comey is in more jeopardy based on his leaking of privledged conversations with a POTUS than Lynch is for ordering Comey to use sanitized language. Comey needs to retain high powered legal representation ASAP. He brought credible suspicion upon himself as being one of the sources of several of the leaks coming from DC.


I doubt that he will spend time in prison over this, but he certainly is vulnerable to criminal charges.

Judge Napolitano made a great point, comeys "notes" mean absolutely nothing as evidence or proof. He could have put down anything and there is no way to verify any of it.

In my life the FBI investigated, when they had tangible proof and the investigation was OVER then it all came out in the press. If it fizzled it just died.

Comey wanted to make continuous press releases DURING a Presidential Campaign and he continues to do that implicating both candidates. Comey screwed this entire investigation up, he more than deserved to get fired and it certainly appeared he had an affection to be in front of a national camera.

He screwed both candidates with his showboating. He put an election campaign into turmoil for "both" candidates when he could have and should have waited until he had "proved" wrongdoing on either part.
