View Full Version : Squeezing the MSM

Best way to strike back at the bias of the MSM is to hit them where it hurts - the bottom line.

First I dismiss print media. It is rapidly going the way of the rotary phone, slide rule, and Kodachrome. Not political - just tecnological and business.

Most of the MSM is broadcast media, and for the most part comes into American homes by means of cable TV. I'm sure there are some who still pick up TV signal the old fashioned way, but they are very much the monority these days.

About half the cost of your cable TV bill is content. And that is always "bundled." Even with most basic of packages you pay for a lot of channels you probably never watch. And you the customer pay the cable company who in turn pays the content providers for that content. So, to not put too fine a point on it, everyone with cable TV pays Rachel Madcow and Chris Mathews, like it or not.

Cable TV stoutly resists a al carte service, so you pay for content you are disgusted by or don't get any at all. OK. So be it. Let's discuss the "...don't get any at all..." option.

There is very little that cable TV provides that cannot be had over the Internet. This is particularly true of news/opinion. For me the only justification for cable TV is ball games. In general I crave information, not entertainment. The Internet handles that quite nicely. So it is not that big a deal for me to fire the cable and go all Internet. I can go out to my local sports bar and watch Colts games.

I'm sure everyone's preferences are different, but for me, this options saves me money, and cuts the MSM with their biased news and cultural warfare entertainment shows (every year, the line between broadcast entertainment and pornography gets narrower and narrower) out of my household.

My actions in no way infringe on your right to watch pro-Obama news and cultural rot. If you pay the freight, have right at it. but roughly 50 million people voted for Romney. If a fifth of them (10 million) go this route (and I think that percentage is quite doable) the cable TV people will be hurt and take notice. 10 million subscribers lost will hurt. They'll have to start either offering a la carte content or accept loss of subscribers (and revenue) and they'll demand to pay less for their bundled content. So at very least, I've done the average O-Bot a favor if the cable companies offer a lower rate for the pro-Obama bias and cultural rot the O-Bots would be watching in the first place.

There is nothing sinister about this. Gandhi and Martin Luther King,Jr. effectively used economic boycotts to achieve their aims. I am in good company. And reducing my expenses never hurts.

Agree, turn off broadcast (push) news, all of it, it's too political, MSNBC or Fox. Seek (pull) news instead. Squeeze MSM till it pops like the zit it's become.

The sound of a zit popping?

I've argued abandon push media for pull since the sensationalist reporting of 9/11.

But can I give up..........The Walking Dead.......

The very thought of it makes me feel like this:

No, Mr. Math Expert, it is called voting with your pocketbook. Media revenues are based on how many buy the papers or turn to the channels. No buyers or watchers, no revenues, no media.

Do I need to simplify that more for you?

If ten million cable TV subscriptions were cancelled it hits Chris Mathews in the wallet.
