I read about it. A coach when I was young wanted me on his team, that is baseball. I had an arm and could out pitch any of those boys and a killer curve. Dad said no but I do understand it was a different time back then and he didn't want me to be the first girl even tho he taught me. My younger brother got a baseball scholarship. I think it's great but even now no football for any of mine with boys. I don't even like boys playing that young.

Not impressed.

 Don't kid yourself RM. Conley would flatten her. Conley don't play. I'd be picking her out of my face mask like a big chunk of turf.

The physical differences will only increase rapidly as she gets older. What are they 13? It's cute and all but girls can't compete with me boys in some respects.

I coached youth soccer from U-6 through U-16, the U-12 class was still co-ed and I can tell you from experience, I would have taken an entire team full of girls.

From a technical standpoint, they are just about at the skill level as boys at that age although the real team studs - the kids who would go out there and just tear up the field and score at will tended to be boys, but from the maturity standpoint - no comparison.

Tell the girls to do something and they do it, or try. Standing on the sideline, tell girls to pay attention and be ready to go into the game and they do just that. Boys - yeah right, they're whacking each other over the head with sticks and running around in the creek behind the bench.

Sounds like you were a terrible coach.

I didn't lose my arm until close to 30. Right now mine is pitiful. Now football, no way too small. Never been over 125 lbs. My son threw a no hitter, lol. I don't think women should play football and I know women will get mad at me but there is a difference, especially with guys.

This has a serious side though. I believe in the equality of the sexes but they are obviously different. See!? Girls are really just as tough as boys if given the chance, right?
no, they are not.

We took the whole enchilada that year.

My son was that kid who could score at will. Generally I'd have him pulling his punches and setting up other players, he had the skill but during the 4th quarter of that championship game, I gave him the green light.

If I remember correctly, he scored 6 goals that final period.

Yeah, a girl could get badly hurt...especially in this sport. Realism has to be a part of the conversation.

That said, I would never discourage a young girl from sports or force her into a frame of mind where she sees herself as incapable.

No girls should play sports just not football if they are active. My sister complete opposite but Dad did see something different in me. I was 5'8 and into sports in high-school. My daughter 5'10 and oldest son 6'4. Don't tell them they can't play but let them play with girls even tho my daughter played T-ball and coach pitch with both. She was the only one who could throw the ball to first base from third. Then she went to softball-fastpitch. If she had no interest I would not have put her out there and she played basketball and volleyball. Put them in something even if it's girly. Builds self confidence.

He was pretty good.

We were playing the team in the next county, they had the distinction of kicking our asses every year. Some of the dudes on that team were my size, I almost considered checking their ages.

Anyway, we had some really small girls on the team and I told their parents that I would be keeping them out of the game just for the day in concern for their safety, but I'd double them up in the next game or two.

So we're getting trounced. I put my son in at goal, he's no skilled goalie but I figured he'd be good at getting the ball out of our end if needed. This dude on the other team, must have been 6' tall caught a breakaway. He's the only dude on our side of the field and he's barreling down on the goal - 1 on 1. I said nothing, my kid's on his own here - so what does he do? He bolts out of the goal toward this dude and takes him out - midfield tackle. That other kid was twice his size, dropped like a sack of hammers.

No card either, I thought for sure he'd get tossed.

I have one more story, I'm sure it gets old listening to kid stories but this one is ok.

I was coaching a game and my kid, pretty aggressive but not a great ball handler. Some of the other kids were going after the ball when he had it so he starts protecting the ball with his body and elbows. I didn't coach that, he just did it and the ref didn't seem to mind.

My wife is on the far side taking videos and she plays it back to me at home, tells me "you have to hear this parent from the other team". My son's number was 17 and I guess he was out there throwing his elbows around and this parent standing right next to my wife is yelling "GET THAT #17 OFF THE FIELD BEFORE HE KILLS SOMEONE!".

Then all I can hear is my wife chuckling on the video.
