Fake news just keeps right on getting busted. This is why only 27% of america <progressiveleft> think the media is truthful.

The New York Times issued a correction Thursday on an article that incorrectly claimed all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies agreed that “Russia orchestrated the attacks, and did it to help get [Trump] elected.”
The original article (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/25/us/politics/trumps-deflections-and-denials-on-russia-frustrate-even-his-allies.html?_r=0&mtrref=t.co), published June 25, covered certain reactions that President Donald Trump gave in response to Russian cyber attacks and interactions with the 2016 presidential election.
TheNYT’s correction notes that: “The assessment was made by four intelligence agencies — the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency. The assessment was not approved by all 17 organizations in the American intelligence community.”
Former candidate Hillary Clinton made the claim (https://www.recode.net/2017/5/31/15716226/watch-live-hillary-clinton-code-conference-today) in late May that all 17 intelligence agencies agreed “that the Russians ran an extensive information war against my campaign to influence voters in the election.”
Former FBI Director James Comey refuted this false claim in a congressional hearing (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2017/05/08/full-transcript-sally-yates-and-james-clapper-testify-on-russian-election-interference/?utm_term=.8dcad3b9830d) in May, stating that the assessment was only from the NSA, FBI and the CIA.
The Daily Caller News Foundation published a fact-check (http://dailycaller.com/2017/06/01/fact-check-did-17-intel-agencies-all-agree-russia-hacked-the-dnc-podesta/) June 1 that rated Clinton’s claim as “False.”

I think its a good thing when news organizations fess up to their mistakes and either print retractions or revisions. People make mistakes and owning up to them is a good thing. Its the ones that will never fess up or admit their mistakes that are worrisome.

Sure, after they have been exposed and the backlash forces them to, it is not like they had a come to Jesus moment, they got exposed.

That may be true at times but I also see the press self-policing and admitting mistakes as well in order to correct the record. Not everything is an internecine conspiracy.

The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations.

The USIC, for your information, includes:

Seventeen separate organizations unite to form the Intelligence Community (IC).The overall efforts of the IC are administered by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). ODNI's role is to organize and coordinate the efforts of the other 16 IC agencies. Those agencies are divided into three groups:

Program Managers, who advise and assist the ODNI in identifying requirements, developing budgets, managing finances and evaluating the IC's performance
Departmentals, which are IC components within government departments outside of the DoD that focus on serving their parent department's intelligence needs
Services, which encompass intelligence personnel in the armed forces, and which primarily support their own service branch's needs
