Indeed, the only cybersecurity specialists who have taken a look at the server are from CrowdStrike (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/crowdstrike/), the Irvine, California-based private cybersecurity company that the DNC (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/democratic-national-committee/) hired to investigate the hack — but which has come under fire itself for its work.


Some critics say CrowdStrike (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/crowdstrike/)’s evidence for blaming Russia (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/russia/) for the hack is thin. Members of Congress say they still believe Russia (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/russia/) was responsible but wonder why the DNC (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/democratic-national-committee/) has never allowed federal investigators to get a look at the key piece of evidence: the server. Either way, a key “witness” in the political scandal consuming the Trump administration remains beyond the reach of investigators.


In recent days, questions about the server have taken on more importance as attention has focused on an email suggesting that the DNC (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/democratic-national-committee/) and the Obama administration (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/barack-obama/)’s Justice Department were trying to limit the scope of the FBI (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/federal-bureau-of-investigation/)’s investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s secret email account.

Mentioned in recent reporting and testimony from fired FBI (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/federal-bureau-of-investigation/) Director James B. Comey (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/james-b-comey/), the correspondence reportedly shows Obama-era Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch privately assuring “someone in the Clinton campaign that the email investigation would not push too deeply into the matter.”

Looking at a server ain't gonna to tell you much. lol It was my understanding the hack was through a phishing expedition and a few nitwits who used simple passwords etc. Having managed email for a major corporation all the data should have been incrementally backed up, some systems replicate immediately. But if the user deletes the email it is gone unless sent to another system again dependent on backup policies. But if Russians hacked the system what relevance would that have? I have to tell you when we had a very distributed system many servers were easily hacked so to speak through poor procedures. It seems the Russians interfere if and when they can, now the question is how to stop that. Get on any server, list users and you too can become a hacker. I once hacked a manager who worked for me laptop after seeing his daughter's name. lol The only way safe bet is isolated servers with on-site only access. Even firewalls brake down. Paper ballots here we come.
