But if Ivanka Trump and Kushner, socially liberal former Democratic donors, remain influential voices with Trump on personnel decisions, they have so far had little effect on his policies.

Last week they were blindsided by the president’s tweet saying he planned to ban transgender people from serving in the military, according to several White House aides, a major coup for conservatives who had been quietly lobbying the administration on the issue for months.

White House officials said the first daughter was surprised by her father’s posts; in the past, Trump has been a supporter of gay rights. Ivanka Trump, according to these officials, learned of the decision when she saw her father’s tweet on her phone.

Forget for a second what Trump decided to do. Forget the gender issues, the financial issues, the matter of whether the military is the right place to transition or what not.

Trump's closest advisors, including his own child, apparently did not know about this decision until they read it on Twitter. That would seem very problematic. If he didn't consult them, who did he consult? Did he consult anyone? It would seem extremely impulsive and random if Trump went about announcing this policy on Twitter without discussing it with his closest advisors. Announcing it on Twitter, period, seems impulsive and not the right platform.

He's pretty much flying by the seat of his pants. This is by far the worst president we've ever had.

He didn't consult with anybody on that turd. He just threw it out there as a distraction and to further piss his detractors.

The Pentagon is for now ignoring the tweet .. business as usual unless and until he can come up with a plan of how this rolls out.

For instance, how to handle the thousands of transgenders ALREADY SERVING.

We hired an idiot

Yes, Trump was a liberal until he discovered Birtherism in 2009.

Since, he's been neither a liberal nor a conservative - mostly just an a-hole.

I suspect he has been consulting with many advisors. After he had enough information he made a decision. And now we all know what that decision was.

First off I highly doubt there are not Thousands of Transgendered people already serving, a lot of whack a moles are saying up to 15,000 but that is from a UCLA study that just kinda made it up, one of the authors even said so.

There are an estimated 700,000 transgendered in the US, if you put them in the military at an equal rate to non transgendered you would have about 1500 total in the total force active and reserve. So in order to have thousands transgendered people would have to join at twice the rate of non transgendered people, do you really think that is how it is working?

I keep wondering how long her loyalty to father will last with him attacking many of the things she supports, somewhere along the line one has to be true unto themselves first. My guess is she will find a reason somewhere along the way to simply leave the WH.

Correct, every General asked said they had not been consulted at all, for a CIC he sure does seem to know how the military works.

She'll leave when it starts to affect her brand. She's a poser. When it hits the pocket book she'll bail.
