Problem of course is spending money to build special purpose forums that then are no longer used. LA actually has a very good shot at making money, Chris. They have held it twice, made money both times. First, let's get Peter Ueberroth to run it!

But all kidding aside, LA has alot of the venues already. Of course, they are going to use public funds. This, I do not support. They should set up a special purpose FOR PROFIT corporation and let investors seed it with money.

What would probably work better and incorporate the idea of countries coming together better would be to randomly pick appropriate venues for certain types of events in different countries. For example, in a summer Olympics, one country may get track and field because they have a great stadium, while gymnastics could go just about anywhere that has a sports arena. Places with the right swimming stadiums could get the swimming activities. Another place may get the cycling and outdoors events.

And it could rotate like that, hitting major cities everywhere, that simply already have the infrastructure. It would also enable some countries who can't compete to host the games to at least host an event type. Wouldn't it be kind of awesome to see the super-long distance marathons that aren't done on a track held in countries like Kenya or Jamaica where they often have the top athletes in that field, but could never host the actual games?

They could even make it fun and rotate it from continent to continent so that things are on relatively similar time zones.

That seems a lot more economical and fair.

Sounds like a better idea. Spreads the costs and the gains. Might be able to use existing structures.

Or they could be funded by the Olympic committees of each country, but held in Greece, like the original. Naked!

Naked would get a crowd including some not to be mentioned forum members.

In the video they mention the committee get half the take. Can't imagine why they need so much.

That would cost billions and billions more. A nation would be sending their team and support network all over the world.

Its not always about the venue the event will be played in. It's also about the area having the facilities and services to handle the influx of people.
