If your computer or laptop has an SSD drive you need to understand that no data can ever be erased from the drive. Any info is there forever.
They are not like conventional hard drives that you can wipe.
They only way to safeguard your information if you replace it, is to totally destroy it.
You do that by beating it with a hammer and breaking all the chips inside into pieces.
We do that at the shop regularly when we replace SSDs
One more point, dont buy use SSDs if you dont know who owned them. Whats ever on there is still there.

I have an HP laptop, no idea what an ssd is or if I have one, as for the hammer part? Hillarie's aids recommend a 4 pound sledge hammer!

If its an older HP you probably dont have an ssd.
If you wanted to check go to majorgeeks.com and dl the program HWinfo whatever the newest version is, it will tell you what HD you have

Actually, you can by writing random data sequentially to the whole drive twice, however, this shortens the life of the drive, if you are going to sell or repurpose your computer.

Im told that does not work Doc and another point defragging an SSD shortens its life

Kill it with fire, install good old fashioned HDD.
