OK, so I am against NAFTA and other similar trade agreements. While they are a step up from trade restrictions, they are fixed trade managed by the government and not free trade.

San Antonio companies are watching the negotiations to change and update the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg has estimated that 63,000 San Antonio jobs can be credited to the 1994 trade pact. Another 135,000 jobs are indirectly tied to NAFTA, Nirenberg has said.

Companies large and small in San Antonio that do business in different ways with Mexico could be affected by the talks, expected to extend into 2018.

The result could be new tariffs and taxes on products, new dispute resolution rules and different regulations and standards.

...Changes to NAFTA could affect supply chains between San Antonio companies and Mexico firms which have developed since, and before, NAFTA took effect in 1994.

Andeavor in San Antonio exports fuel to Mexico.
H-E-B operates a large chain of grocery stores in Mexico, such as this one in the Chipinque neighborhood of Monterrey.
Howard Energy Partners in San Antonio helps provide Mexico’s demand for fossil fuels through terminals and pipelines stretching from Corpus Christi to North Mexico.
NatureSweet Tomatoes in San Antonio buys and sells tomatoes grown in Mexico.
The Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas plant in South Bexar County receives its pickup truck chassis from a factory in Apodaca, Mexico, a Monterrey suburb.
Valero Energy Corp. in San Antonio delivers fuels to Mexican customers.
