After White House Chief of Staff John Kelly on Monday night said that the Civil War was the result of “the lack of an ability to compromise” and called Confederal Gen. Robert E. Lee an “honorable man,” author Ta-Nehisi Coates tore into Kelly on Twitter.

Not preferable, but tell that to the racist south that didn't want the negro to be free.

Of course not. Slaves were valuable property.

They were, even the slave master's wives thought so too.

I am sure there was some play then, just as now. You know the larger problem was the uncanny similarity between the male masters' appearance and many biracial offspring. Over and over the only one who apparently did not understand why there was a striking similarity was the one who routinely impregnated his female slaves.

Slavery is always horrific. It damages both slaves and masters. It degrades both.

Yep, it makes one wonder if that's when abortion was encouraged.
