Law enforcement authorities arrested more than 200 suspected members and associates of MS-13 during a recent six-week operation targeting the violent street gang across the U.S., the Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday.
Officials said federal agents and local police arrested 93 alleged MS-13 members and associates on federal or state charges that ranged from murder to assault. Another 121 were arrested for administrative immigration violations that will likely result in their removal from the U.S., the officials said.
“MS-13 is one of the greatest public safety risks in our communities,” said Derek Benner, a senior special agent at U.S. Immigration Custom Enforcement who oversees its homeland security investigations.
