Police have made an arrest in a cold case going back nearly 20 years.

Officers walked 53-year-old Roy Hernandez into custody Wednesday, preparing to charge him with the murder of his wife Dedra Salinas.

The Salinas family has long considered Hernandez the only suspect in the murder, and waited 17 years for him to be arrested.

Police wouldn’t say why it took so long to connect the dots - just that he’s their man.

...Dedra Salinas went missing back in December 1999. An anonymous Crime Stoppers tip led police to her body in February 2006.

Dedra’s skeletal remains were wrapped in a comforter, bound with cords and buried in a shallow grave under a small concrete slab. She was buried in her own backyard, just steps away from the south side home she shared with Hernandez.

... and the cops got the new owner's permission...

... to search the property.

That's more or less how dey put Mel Ignatow away.

I love when they finally catch these people, that get away with heinous crimes. The sad thing is the 20 yrs it took to finally nail him, he should have been in prison

What I don't get is they BBQed and sat on the concrete slab she was buried under and yet no one noticed, you'd think the decaying body would smell.

It took them 11 years after they found the body in the back yard? A little methodical , maybe?

You get one shot - maybe it took time to prove method of death to get murder rather than abuse of corpse?

Not much has come up since. The wife's sister indicated domestic violence. The police indicated inconsistent statements over the years by Hernandez.
