I am looking into buying some inexpensive ones as I am a live in caretaker of a stroke victim. She has trouble with a cell phone, anyone recommend a simple one with push to talk operation and a solid two mile range? Just for in the yard or neigbhors house or quick beer run? Peter1469 thoughts?

I would like to get two good rechargables in the 50 $ range, it seems feesible. I am going to Wally World tomorrow. I know I would get better price and options online, but I need them yesterday.

What I really want, is to keep it around 50 $ and if I could guarantee a solid 3 miles with simple operation, that would be great. I know many variables are involved in range, if they say 23 miles, that is if all the stars are lined up, just so (so to speak)

Willing to spend more, but it seems that operations get more complicated, I need it KISS. She has one good arm and is half blind.

Midland X-Talker T-10 two-way radios might work well for you; two miles transmission range is stretching but most likely for your use they should be fine. No FCC license is required for operation as well. You can pick up a set at Dicks for around $30.00. I provided a link for your convenience.

Ive had bad luck with them, I bought them to communicate with my wife instantly if she had a problem walking the dog, I bought up to a 150.00 pair and every time she turned to a certain distance it would break up. I just had no luck with them

PTT cellphones
Thanks, I was unaware they made those, sounds like the perfect solution without worrying about range.

PTT cellphones

I still don't know why they moved away from PTT cellphones. Those old motorolla phones were so convenient for work ... and anything else for that matter.

No suggestions, but it deserves some Brian Regan.

I ended up getting two small handheld, single channel ones that work great. Only one mile range but I only need it to reach 500 ft or so. Could of got 30 mile range multi channel ones for the same price 60$ (radio shack, to be expected) But they have digital display and WAY to many buttons for her.

These are very simple to operate, only 4 buttons, a PTT button and an even simpler page option. Now I can drink beer on the neighbors porch or help him on the house remodeling with out worrying about her falling, she would get frustrated she could not operate the cell phone and try getting up herself and fall.

Landlord and neighbors have their own walkie talkies, we can all communicate on channel one.
