Pretty disturbing statistic. There is no reason the US should not do better by its children, though I suspect some of this is due to substance abuse issues among the poor that cannot be addressed by spending more money on children's healthcare alone.

American kids are 70 percent more likely to die before adulthood than kids in other rich countries
A child born in the United States has a 70 percent greater chance of dying before adulthood than kids born into other wealthy, democratic countries, a new study has found.
The research, published in the journal Health Affairs (https://www.healthaffairs.org/) on Monday, shows that the United States lags far behind peer countries on child health outcomes. It estimates that, since 1961, America’s poor performance accounts for more than 600,000 excess child deaths — deaths that wouldn’t have happened if these kids were born into other wealthy countries.

“In all the wealthy, democratic countries we studied children are dying less often then they were 50 years ago,” Ashish Thakrar, the study’s lead author, said. “But we found that children are dying more often in the United States than in any similar country.”

I question the validity of those numbers, I would have to read that from a valid medical site and source not a left wing blog. In the same article it goes into CHIP program and the amount of guns in the US, its a liberal hit piece

There are more poor migrants in CA alone than there are people in some developed states.

I just dont trust the numbers, anyway on another note just read two NYC newspapers and everyday there is at least 1 or two kids killed by mothers boyfriend, fathers etc, now include the rest of the country because thats just one city

Not sure if violent deaths are included. If so, that will really distort things.

I think guns do have a lot to do with it. Too bad but no solution. Drugs I don't buy. That's a world-wide problem.

There is a pretty blue link that says "Health Affairs" in the quote from the "left wing blog" I provided.

I think you cannot underestimate the impact of drugs on children's deaths. Those impacts might be direct like being born addicted and/or premature or indirect like being neglected because Moms gotta get her party on.

That pretty link is misleading. They are measuring child mortality not healthcare outcomes.

The same would be true anyplace where drugs are easy to get. The effect would be the same.

It actually comes down to how other "rich countries" measure child hood death. In the United States we count the child from the instant it leaves the womb. Not so in other countries. So we count still births as infant deaths, France gives them a few days.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infant_mortality#Differences_in_measurement

Its all a fabrication to make us look like we are killing off our children.

I'm they are being very creative in how they come up with that conclusion.
