California worried that its wealthy will leave the state over taxes (http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article195405279.html)

California relies on its wealthy residents to fund the state. Some wealthy families are leaving. And that will be a big problem for California.

he Republican-backed federal tax bill flipped the tables on a never-ending question for California politicians: Will high taxes lead the state’s wealthiest residents to flee the Golden State for the comparable tax havens of Florida, Nevada and Texas?

Republicans reliably raise that alarm when Democrats advocate for tax increases, like the 2012 and 2016 ballot initiatives that levied a new income tax on very high-earning residents.

But now, with the federal tax bill cutting off deductions that benefited well-off Californians, the state’s Democrats suddenly are singing the GOP song about a potential millionaire exodus.

To make up for the deficit all they need to do is embrace a few million more Mexicans for every millionaire who leaves. No worries here.

Do they think it's just because of taxes? Do they not realize a lot of the citizens have had it with their state shielding/supporting illegals? That never crossed their minds?

If just a few wealthy families left the state, the results would be bad- California can't pay its bills.

Well, sure, let them end up with a whole state full of illegals who don't want to work, who only came there for the sanctuary status....see how far that gets 'em.

Whether they want to work is irrelevant. How delusional do you have to be to think poor people are going to fill CA's coffers? Or save Social Security? There are people who really make these claims.

America haters.... I can't think of any other reason US citizens would support sanctuary cities.

They're in love with themselves and want to be thought of as "good" people. Of course these are some of the same folks who dismiss morality as a fiction but that's beyond the cope of this thread.

Too late for california to worry about it, they need to worry about people leaving the state entirely.

Same in Europe. The wealthy go first, followed by the educated and skilled, replaced by illegals and benefit recipients. Sweden, the self-styled ‘humanitarian superpower’ is heading for third world status within 15 years, according to the UN and the UK lost 10% of its managerial class in just over a decade. American self-styled ‘sanctuary cities’ will go the same way.

But no problem. Out there, somewhere lost in deep America exists da gubernment money tree. All the Democrats need do is find it and it solves all problems. :)

CA, IL, NY are all having the same issues. And it is likely that they will loose 6 congressional seats, and of course 6 electoral vote.

And the Rust Belt will be gone for the Democrats, for the for seeable future, providing the jobs keep coming back

It looks like the Democrats are finally getting enough retired people to move into Florida to swing that state blue, but they can't makeup for what they are loosing.

I said that if they over reached with Obama and they clearly did, it could be the end of them fore the fore seeable future.

And the final nail in the coffin if you will they have Nobody with national attention and they have NO ideas to present to the voters.

Everyone with any amount of common sense. When people finally get fed up with being overtaxed and see no light at the end of the tunnel they find another place to live. The shame of it is that California could be a great place to live. It has the most diverse geography in America. One could go surfing then spend the day at a world class skin resort in the same weekend.

If only we could get the Californians to leave...

This republican sponsored "Tax Bill" is the cause of all this! And it was done deliberately to punish California, because they didn't vote (R)!

Regardless of where they move, they still wont have the deductions! These wealthy people made their bundle here, and there are great marketing advantages to staying here with their business.

Sure, it costs more to live here, but the rewards outweigh the costs!
The thought of living in the horrid Nevada wasteland with its Valley Fever and radioactive nuclides floating in the air, terrify me!A wonderfull lady I knew, died from leukemia because she spent too many years living in Fallon, NV and the toxic waste pits.

This article is just another "fear based" Rethuglican meme they keep pushing to scare people!

Ridiculous. High tax states have been getting a break from low tax states - that should end.

Stop spending so much.
