Blacks have been saying that the Democrats take them for granted for several election cycles now. It's certainly true but I have to wonder what either party (no pun intended) is willing to do about it. For their part, blacks will have to step into the unknown and Democrats will have to balance the interests of blacks with those of Latin American immigrants and other groups whose real interests don't coincide. It will be interesting to watch. While the GOP is losign the demographic battle (due entirely to immigration) their party is relatively homogeneous. The Democrats have a much greater challenge in balancing the interests of very different constituents.

Blacks will increasingly move to the GOP as they become wealthier or increasingly stay at home I think. The hispanic vote is a little more temporal. First generation immigrants overwhelmingly support the DNC. Second generation immigrants are generally left leaning but the GOP picks up a lot more of them. By the third generation, there isn't a real heritage predictor. That also corresponds with rising wealth--the first generation tends to be poor/welfare types and by the third generation they contribute much more economically and stop identifying so much with their hyphen and see themselves as just Americans. I don't worry about it too much. Our area is attracting a lot of folks from Pakastan and India for whatever reason. Heard someone this weekend make the typical, "They are taking over everything. They now own..." comment. I just replied that didn't matter to me who owned what. Politically, a pox on both their houses. I will just keep voting for alt candidates with the hope that there will one day be a working class party that focuses on economics and leaves all this other stuff to the side of the road.

If the declining black unemployment started in 2008-2011, the trend isn't because of an improving economy. It is more likely because more blacks are leaving the workforce/giving up or supporting themselves by other means than work that moves them out of the employment/unemployment capture window.
