In the 1970s, progressives stood up for civil liberties. Today they’ve reverted to the J. Edgar Hoover era......

Only a few aging historians still remember Rep. John J. Rooney, but from the 1940s into the 1970s he was FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover’s most powerful enabler. Rooney, a Brooklyn, N.Y., Democrat, led the House appropriations subcommittee that oversaw the Justice Department. He remained Hoover’s steadfast ally as presidents from Truman through Nixon came and went.

John Rooney personified an era in which congressional Democrats eagerly aided and abetted the FBI’s running amok, as the bureau surveilled political activists who attracted Hoover’s ire. Rooney’s retirement in 1974 ushered in a radically different age, featuring rigorous and aggressive congressional oversight. A new generation of Democrats, led by principled progressives like Sen. Frank Church and Rep. Otis Pike, courageously proved ready and willing to expose and eliminate the abuse of Americans’ constitutional rights that had long been Hoover’s political bread and butter.

But as Frank Church’s legacy faded, the FBI protested that the 21st-century bureau bore no relationship whatsoever to Hoover’s. In a 2016 speech (https://www.fbi.gov/news/speeches/law-enforcement-and-the-communities-we-serve-tied-together-in-a-single-garment-of-destiny), then-Director James Comey said that under the glass on his desk he kept a copy of a 1963 memo, signed by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, authorizing a wiretap on Martin Luther King Jr. “I keep it there in that spot,” Mr. Comey said, “to remind me of what we in the FBI are responsible for, and what we as humans are capable of, and why it is vital that power be overseen, be constrained, be checked.”

Yet anyone eager to embrace the belief that today’s FBI is a rigorously professional and politically unbiased agency is overlooking the facts.

The same FBI knowingly relied on the “Steele dossier”—third-hand, anonymous partisan gossip about Donald Trump, brokered by a paid operative—to obtain a top-secret court order for surveillance of former Trump adviser Carter Page, an American citizen. Yet so far as we know, Mr. Page is guilty of nothing more than pursuing unsuccessful business ties in Moscow while mouthing naive platitudes about Vladimir Putin.

Worst of all, the court order for surveillance of Mr. Page was renewed three successive times at the behest of officials including Mr. Comey, the FBI’s then Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. To anyone who has studied how Hoover’s FBI worked, this continuing approval immediately calls to mind the bureau’s never-ending surveillance of King’s closest adviser, Stanley Levison. Year after year, the wiretaps of Levison produced no evidence to support the FBI’s hypothesis that he was a Soviet agent. Still, successive attorneys general, including Bobby Kennedy, readily approved the FBI’s surveillance of Levison and his family.

Yet that bright truth is, at the moment, being outshone by Democratic lawmakers’ eagerness to cover up, excuse and defend FBI behavior that their predecessors of the 1970s would have readily denounced. The ignominious irony is that judgment-blurring partisan hatred is leading many Democrats to ignore and forsake the lessons that the FBI’s history so richly teaches.....snip~

There you have it.....History repeating itself. The New Spawn Democrats have reverted back to their old ways. Enabling the FBI running amok. Abetting the FBI so all light doesn't shine on Hillary Clinton and her campaign. So that the light doesn't reflect upon the Democrats, their DNC, and their mouthpieces the Lame Stream media. What say ye?

Now the Deviate Demos are trying to get that power like Hoover. That's why they were filling up the DOJ and the FBI with their kind. Then the IC.

They forgot one thing.....that they are fuck ups. So it will never work.

This was Excellent. It is what I have been trying to say. When we put political preference above the truth, The Republic can't stand.

We see today certainly enough evidence to make people concerned and should make them want to get to the truth and if crimes were committed, want those responsible brought to justice so this does not happen again.

But instead we have a year and a half investigation into our president, that has produced no real evidence, and we are told by Democrats to look the other way on the facts that are coming out, and instead believe what we are telling you, even though we don't have the facts yet.

Now don't get me wrong I am not calling for the investigation on Trump to stop until it comes to an end. but it is clear that this investigation, with out a made up political hit piece would not have happened. So bring out all of the other evidence and let the people decide if laws were broken.

In the same light it is clear that we have to see just how deep the relationship between some Democrats, the FBI and DOJ, and Russia really was, I would hope that the democrats that were not involved in this would be just as eager to find out the truth, but it appears that most are just willing to cover it up.

It may seem that way to you, but it wasn't under a democratic president that the FBI started flooding people in the real estate world with Federal Marshall delivered letters demanding that they turn over all files and information related to real estate transaction and prohibiting the recipient from disclosing they were being investigated to the client/customer/target citing the USA Patriot Act. It was prolific enough of a practice that our state bar send out guidance to lawyers that the proper response was effectively "Get a warrant or pound sand". Law enforcement routinely push the envelope and routinely cross the line which is why the courts spend so much time beating them with a 2 X 4.

Soviet espionage and McCarthyism[edit (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Harry_S._Truman&action=edit&section=19)]
In August 1948, Whittaker Chambers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whittaker_Chambers), a former spy for the Soviets and a senior editor at Time magazine, testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_Un-American_Activities_Committee) (HUAC). He said that an underground communist network had worked inside the U.S. government during the 1930s, of which Chambers had been a member, along with Alger Hiss (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alger_Hiss), until recently a senior State Department official. Chambers did not allege any spying during the Truman presidency. Although Hiss denied the allegations, he was convicted in January 1950 for perjury for denials under oath. The Soviet Union's success in exploding an atomic weapon in 1949 and the fall of the nationalist Chinese the same year led many Americans to conclude that subversion by Soviet spies was responsible, and to demand that communists be rooted out from the government and other places of influence.[196] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman#cite_note-FOOTNOTEDallek200887–88-199)[197] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman#cite_note-FOOTNOTEMcCoy1984194,_217–18-200) However, Truman got himself into deeper trouble when he called the Hiss trial a "red herring."[198] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman#cite_note-201)

Wisconsin Senator McCarthy accused the State Department of harboring communists, and rode the controversy to political fame.[199] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman#cite_note-FOOTNOTEWeinstein1997450–51-202)

Charges that Soviet agents had infiltrated the government were believed by 78% of the people in 1946, and became a major campaign issue for Eisenhower in 1952.[200] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman#cite_note-FOOTNOTETroy2008128-203) Truman was reluctant to take a more radical stance because he feared that the full disclosure of the extent of the communist infiltration would reflect badly on the Democratic Party. It was a time of the Red Scare (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Scare).[201] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman#cite_note-FOOTNOTEEvans324-204) In 1949, Truman described American communist leaders, whom his administration was prosecuting (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_Act_trials_of_Communist_Party_leaders), as "traitors," but in 1950 he vetoed the McCarran Internal Security Act (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCarran_Internal_Security_Act). It was passed over his veto.[202] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman#cite_note-FOOTNOTEMcCoy1984216–17,_234–35-205) Truman would later state in private conversations with friends that his creation of a loyalty program had been a "terrible" mistake.[203] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman#cite_note-FOOTNOTEMcCullough1992553-206).....snip~

All that I would ask my friends on the left is to come at this investigation into the truth with the same vigor that you did about the ongoing investigation into President Trump and Russian Election Tampering

Clearly there is as much or more evidence that there was corruption at the highest levels of Government as there is about Trump and Russian. And if the country should know the facts on one, it is only logical that they know the facts on the other. If either of them prove to be false, then let that happen.

Because the Democrats are running scared I suspect one of 2 things. #1 they know that there is enough evidence to allow for a special prosecutor and that will be in full force in the election this fall. Or worse they know that there is real dirt that was covered up and if it comes out the Democrats will be punished at the polls because of their deception.

The longer they are opposed the more people in the country believe it is the later of the two

Except for the fact that the Demos have been down this road before. While even knowing a Russian Spy was the Senior Editor at Time Mag.

Makes one wonder where they got a few of their buddies into the Lame Stream.

Well when it comes to issues of Russians, breaking rules, protocols and laws. The Repubs are no where close in comparison with the Demos. That's not to say there isn't those on the Right that are about the Slim Shady.

One thing the Demos are real good at.....is blaming others for exactly what they are doing.
