Ohio Student Suspended for Refusing to Leave Classroom During Gun Control Walkout
A high school student in Hilliard, Ohio, didn’t want to pick sides in the contentious gun debate surrounding Wednesday’s “National Walkout,” so he stayed in class instead of joining the largely anti-gun protest or an alternative “study hall.”
Hilliard Davidson High School senior Jacob Shoemaker was then reportedly slapped with a suspension.
The student argued that divisive politics have no place in America’s schools and he refused to take sides in the debate, according to the Associated Press (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ohio-student-suspended-for-staying-in-class-during-walkouts/ar-BBKikzU?ocid=st).

Shoemaker's suspension citation was posted online, possibly by a friend, and the story quickly went viral.
“Student refused to follow instructions after being warned repeatedly by several administrators,” the letter said. “Student not permitted on school property.”
School district spokesperson Stacie Raterman said official policy prohibited school officials from leaving Shoemaker unattended in the building for “security reasons,” 10TV reported (https://www.10tv.com/article/district-post-saying-hilliard-student-suspended-over-walkout-refusal-fake).
While Shoemaker said he didn't expect for his actions to generate so much attention, he is prepared to accept the consequences of his decision.

Not surprising.

In another recent incident a senior in college was kicked out of a class and told he could not return because he told the professor that there are only two genders. Of course no attempts at indoctrination here.

No missing details. It's all in the article: "A high school student in Hilliard, Ohio, didn’t want to pick sides in the contentious gun debate surrounding Wednesday’s “National Walkout,” so he stayed in class instead of joining the largely anti-gun protest or an alternative “study hall.”
Hilliard Davidson High School senior Jacob Shoemaker was then reportedly slapped with a suspension."

School policy was that students couldn't stay alone in the building. He didn't want to join the protest nor go to the supervised "alternative study hall" and was suspended for not complying with either of the offered choices.

That is a meaningful detail.

So the student was not suspended for "refusing to participate in Gun Control March".

The school has standard protocols and procedures. The suspension was for violating those.

There are always big details missing from Common posts. My take is that the teacher had to keep an eye on the kids after walkout and that he was the only one left in the class.

Teacher can't leave a kid alone in the classroom and had only one option. Jacob could have simply walked outside the classroom and hung out until everyone returned but needed to draw attention to himself.

What bothers me a lot more is the rash of students who were suspended or slapped with detention by right wing administrators for peaceful protest.

Correct. He had two choices but decided to stage a one-student protest instead. Suspension seems a little harsh, IMO, but if it was only for 24 hours, then it isn't such a big deal. Still, suspension on one's school record is worse than simple detention.

Can you provide any links to these "rash of students" who were suspended for peaceful protests??

There are often times "meaningful details" left out of those stories also....

Indoctrinated to go along with liberal teachers wishes is not being 'distorted". It is being forced to see it their way or the highway and obviously he got the highway.

He was given the choice to participate in march or go to study hall. He chose to stay in a classroom by himself, unsupervised in violation of school policy. That is what got him suspended for 24 hours(?).

I don't like teachers pushing liberal agendas on their students, but that isn't the case here. By pushing a false narrative, pro-Second Amendment supporters risk being disregarded as dishonest and deceitful as the anti-gun Left. Best to stick to the truth as Benjamin Franklin recommended.

Yeah. The article starts off pretty sensational.

Amariah Matos wasn't happy. She was told that when class let out Thursday, she'd have to spend three extra hours in school -- serving detention. She'd have to do that again Friday and on Monday.
That's the price 16-year-old Amariah and 35 others at Lindenhurst High in New York were told they'd paying for walking out of class during the National School Walkout (https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/14/us/national-school-walkout-gun-violence-protests/index.html) on Wednesday.

But then a few inches down.

Amariah says she was initially suspended for three days. The school district then downgraded it to three days' detention. Then it canceled it altogether.

So many of of these articles are just agenda driven bullsh*t.

Exactly right. Playing the victim and skewing the facts to make it appear that you're being persecuted for your views is something folks on both sides of a controversy have been known to do, but it just backfires in the long run and destroys one's credibility.

there is a third that we normally don't even consider and that is the hermaphrodite. Technically they qualify at birth as two-gendered. In our society the parents can have one or the other fixed right after birth. I am neither condemning or condoning such practice, just stating the facts.

Ok...but the anthropologist folks and medical doctors tend to agree that there are three specific genders, the last one being the anomaly. It happens often enough that they named the third sex, hermaphrodite.

you used the proper word, but still that is an example of both genders being present in one person. That is not a third gender.

It is fascinating that we made it from students punished for not participating to three genders.
