I suppose it’s not enough for this HUD, or should I say homeless, secretary to use $31,000 of OUR TAX DOLLARS to buy a dining set for A PUBLIC OFFICE. This purchase was $26,000 of TAX DOLLARS over the budget allowed. He said that you can barely get curtains for that measly 5 grand, which shows how out of touch this stupid fundamentalist is. All of that was not enough, appreantly this scumbag is defending the abuse of TAX DOLLARS. In this article he claims that this particular purchase was made for safety reasons... oh I don’t know, the dining set of the average TAX PAYER must be a life hazard to this scumbag. he also added that he consulted his wife before making the purchase. HIS WIFE!! NOT THE TAX PAYER BUT HIS OGRE OF A WIFE... as if it’s a family decision.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2018/03/20/ben-carson-defends-purchase-of-new-31000-set-the-dining-room-table-was-actually-dangerous/?utm_term=.1ba9653f6bd8

how many citizens of the United States of lobbyists became homeless due to this retarded Christian fundamentalist methods of running the HUD... he is a staunch advocate for severing welfare to the poor, which does not make any sense from a Christian perspective... he believes the poor are not entitled to any thing and should die on the streets of cold and starvation. Yet the billionaires are entitled to every perk and luxury the government has to offer.

@Scerab (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=2132) how much do you believe a fair price for the set should be ??
This is a very subjective question... to Oprah, that price could be ten million. To the average tax paying American, it could be $500. However, This is irrelevant, because the law only allowed for $5000.
First he surpassed that allowed amount.
second, he claimed safety reasons. Maybe this dining set shots bombs at ISIS?
third, he is showing no signs of remorse but is in fact defending his purchase.
And finally, he did not consult the American TAX PAYER, but consulted his wife instead....
these behaviors are more akin to what we expect from dictators not public officials in a democracy...

With help (a lot) from an old woodsmith, we built one from old barn timbers.

TAX DOLLARS are a scared trust we bestow upon our elected officials to improve our lives and wellbeing. This Carson fella does not seem to understand anything about democracy. He thinks that consulting his wife is enough, as if it’s a family matter.
From what I understood, the dining set was purchased for the HUD office. And the entire budget to renovate that office is 5000 TAX DOLLARS. So in short, this Carson fella ROBBED the TAX PAYER of $26,000. One thing I cannot grasp, is why did this thief not seek any donations for his office? Surely the kock devils could have donated one of their barely used sets...what transpired shows a complete disregard for the sanctity of the TAX DOLLARS trust. In other words, Carson believes he is “entitled” to that money...
yes “entitled”, and what an ironic thing it is. He cuts housing and heating assistance for low income Americans because he believes they are “entitled”, but when he does it, it’s ok because he is rich...

Ben Carson is black in case you haven't noticed. Being opposed to any of Former President Obama's policies were deemed to be racist and he was only half black. It stands to reason then if you criticize a 100% black man it absolutely must be strictly on racist grounds.

You are not the head of a multi billion dollar government agency. Even a $1200.00 table is far too much for a double wide by the way.

They are just deflecting over their actions the last eight years. There’s a difference in opposing someone based upon what they do, vs opposing someone only because they look different. Like, bitching and whining about Obama costing money to travel and being ok with Trump costing more money to travel.

The problem I see is that his decision was not wholly above board. Buying a new dining room set, assuming the purchase was appropriate (as I believe it is) should not be part of office renovation. Is 30K too much to pay for a dining room set likely to last for 20 or more years? Was it just a dining room table or did it do double duty as a formal conference table? If so did it have the usual high tech things a formal conference table should have?

It does not seem out of line to me.

I like Carson I just don't like his religion. The guy doesn't believe the Bible as far as hell and many other things. If he overspent then it should be noted like anyone on the left and right. It's never racist to point out errors, bad judgment or treason of another because they claim to be something or a minority, if it be religion or race. I call it like it is and don't care what names they call me.

If the federal limit for office decor is $5K and the bill for the table came to $26K - it's inappropriate and he did cancel the purchase, albeit after much criticism. It's an HUD office, not the Whitehouse, so either you search out a good deal on a 2nd hand piece that is still really serviceable or appeal for donations among the politically faithful toward something nicer. I'm sure that there are plenty of 2nd hand boardroom/dining tables out there that have been replaced because they are now not the latest look in office decor. My office just replaced an enormous table and chairs that were in really good condition but because it was cherry wood and not equipped with openings for electrical connections, it had to go. The new one is not, IMO, half the quality of the old one, and the chairs not as comfortable, but knowing the brand name of the furniture that was purchased, $26K would be a bargain. If I had to guess, they paid more than twice that. Mind you, it seats at least 20 people.

I absolutely abhor the KKK, neo-nazis and every other white supremacy group. The United States of lobbyists is certainly a lot less progressive then Europe. Even Pakistan has had a female president and it’s a country that is rampant with honor killings.
I have lived in Alabama Huntsville for one year. There I saw first hand the deep animosity these Dixies harbor towards their fellow man. What was strange is how they coupled this hatred with the famous southern hospitality... it was there that I witnessed how ugly racist can be. Basically if your not white and baptist then your an alien and thusly must be ostracized.

There is an old story about a very old, wise man who sat on the outskirts of a large town every day. One day a woman came by. She had her possessions with her. She stopped and asked the man what sorts of people live in his town. What should she expect. He said, " I would love to answer your question. First tell me more about you and the town you are moving from. What sort of people live there?" She said, "They are wonderful people, happy, caring, a real pleasure to know." The old, wise man nodded approvingly and said, "You will find the same sort of people live in this town."

Later that day another woman came by. She too, was moving. "Old man!" she snapped. I had to move away from the town I lived in. Is this a good town to live in? What are the people like?" He said, " I would love to answer your question. First tell me more about you and the town you are moving from. What sort of people live there?" She said, "They were horrible people, always angry, bigots, prejudiced. Ugly, racist and spiteful!"

The old, wise man nodded and said, "You will find the same sort of people live in this town."
