NORRIDGEWOCK (WGME) – A Somerset County Sheriff's deputy has been shot and killed in Norridgewock, according to the Somerset County Sheriff's Office.
An active manhunt is underway for the suspect.
Somerset County Sheriff's Corporal Eugene Cole was killed early Wednesday morning in Norridgewock.

Police have identified 29-year-old John Williams, of Madison, as the suspect. He is currently at large and considered armed and dangerous.

He is 5'6", 120 pounds, has brown hair, which is shaved on the sides with a pony tail on top.

They didn't say why or how this happened in the article. I was just wondering why so many were listening into this area went to the police twitter page and found out a manhunt was in progress. Suppose to have had a press conference around an hour ago on the shooting.

Maine records didn’t indicate a lengthy criminal record, but Williams was arrested last month in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and charged with improper storage and carrying a firearm without a license.He was found with a 9mm handgun and a 16-round magazine after he told the police that he dozed off while driving on Route 495 and drove into a ditch.

Scheduled to appear in court to face gun charges, Wednesday killed a sheriff’s deputy in Maine, stole his cruiser and robbed a convenience store, officials said.

So he was out on bond.
