I know few of us need any convincing that the CT shootings have been grossly politicized but, in view of one of our member's attempts to politicize the tragedy, I thought I'd post this. One wonders why he wasn't wringing his hands over the deaths and injuries of these children who are much closer to home?

While fatalities from gun violence are down this year among Chicago Public School students, the number of young people shot during the 2011-12 academic year is up nearly 22 percent from last year, the highest number of students wounded by firearms in the last four years.

Twenty-four students were fatally shot during the school year that ended June 15, four fewer than in the 2010-11 year. But the overall shooting toll — 319 — was the highest in four years and a nearly 22 percent increase from the previous school year.
