Russian spy found working at US embassy in Moscow (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/aug/02/suspected-russian-spy-us-embassy-moscow-secret-service)
This is old in real time, but new to the news. A Russian was hired by the Secret Service to work at the US embassy in Moscow. No pics, but I would guess she was hot. When US personnel work overseas at an embassy they are not supposed to fraternize with the local nationals who work there. Well, that didn't happen in this case.
The Secret Service had hints of problems and a counter intelligence investigation showed this embassy employee had regular meetings with Russian intel agents. They ended up firing her to save face- to keep it out of the news. But here it is.
US counter-intelligence investigators discovered a suspected Russian spy had been working undetected in the heart of the American embassy in Moscow for more than a decade, the Guardian has learned.
The Russian national had been hired by the US Secret Service (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/secret-service) and is understood to have had access to the agency’s intranet and email systems, which gave her a potential window into highly confidential material including the schedules of the president and vice-president.
The woman had been working for the Secret Service for years before she came under suspicion in 2016 during a routine security sweep conducted by two investigators from the US Department of State’s Regional Security Office (RSO).
They established she was having regular and unauthorised meetings with members of the FSB, Russia’s principal security agency.
The Guardian has been told the RSO sounded the alarm in January 2017, but the Secret Service did not launch a full-scale inquiry of its own. Instead it decided to let her go quietly months later, possibly to contain any potential embarrassment.
An intelligence source told the Guardian the woman was dismissed last summer after the state department revoked her security clearance. The dismissal came shortly before a round of expulsions of US personnel (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jul/28/russia-cuts-us-diplomatic-presence-retaliation-sanctions) demanded by the Kremlin after Washington imposed more sanctions on the country.
The order to remove more than 750 US personnel from its 1,200-strong diplomatic mission is understood to have provided cover for her removal.
“The Secret Service is trying to hide the breach by firing [her],” the source said. “The damage was already done but the senior management of the Secret Service did not conduct any internal investigation to assess the damage and to see if [she] recruited any other employees to provide her with more information.

My solution is to have an agent assigned to each embassy who is authorized for wet work.

These secret service employees needs to be fired for not doing their job so others will do their job right the first time.

I expect the call to fire and cover up came from much higher than the local level.

It's not easy, at times.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service practices intelligence gathering abroad. In a lot of situations, people of importance are put under human surveillance. NCIS follows people who work sensitive positions, to see if they are suspicious or are meeting with spys. Either another spy or a handler / control agent. This is to detect possible espionage. And the United States Navy is a prime target of secrets, ship location and other Intel activity. Strategically, the US Navy is the most sought after US Military branch. It has ships and bases , especially in the Middle East, that European Nations and Middle East countries , that foreign governments would kill to get information on. NCIS Agents are busy , extremely busy, and professional at keeping Americas Navy safe.
Second place goes to the US Air Force and it's bases overseas. The US Air Force Office Of Special Investigations, or OSI Agents also take counter intelligence seriously. Air Force bases abroad are prime targets of foreign spys wanting to know what the Air Force is up to.
Problem is, is if you are only doing an Investigative Surveilance and are following a true and trained spy, detecting anything out of the ordinary, or are looking for a secret meet, it will be hard. Reason is, most true spys in espionage dont act out of the ordinary and act as if they are always being watched. So a spy can be followed all over a foreign city for a whole day, pass a secret message, and never ever be detected. It is possible. If the spy runs all over town acting suspicious, uses a bus, train, taxi and boat, to try to detect a tail or shake a tail, then it is game over. The spy is known and a full blown human and electronic surveillance then occurs.
State Dept folks whom protect embassy, the RSO's or Regional Security Officers of the State Depts Law Enforcement arm - the Diplomatic Security Office are charged with protecting US Embassys, its personnel, and especially the Ambassador. Along with the US Marine Secuity Guards or MSG, they protect the US Embassy and its personnel, as well as work the Intel side of things. Intel gathering occurs to detect a possible strike or attack on the embassy, and to locate spys if espionage is occurring.
Generally speaking the US Secret Service does not do embassy investigations. The Department of States Diplomatic Security Service is first, with the FBI being second. I am not even sure if according to US Code, the Secret Service has authority on Embassy Grounds. But, I CAN ASK AROUND and find out.
Counter Intelligence work is not easy. It takes time and preferably manpower to accomplish the mission. Many different avenues at time has to be looked at, as well as individual persons have to be investigated, and possibly followed. And it all has to be done in secret or its game over. Once the quarry is aware of the hunt, the investigation is done and what ever manpower, resources, and time you have spent on the investigation - was essentially for nothing. On top of that, evidence can get destroyed and in some circumstances, people can flee never to be found again.
Some Federal Law Enforcemtment Agencies do Counter Intel work very well. Some are just so-so. It takes training and practice to be a spy, as well as catch one. And there is not enough manpower to go around to be even close to one hundred percent effective.
Some times a Counter Intel sleuth will get lucky. A spook becomes complacent, says something wrong, leaves a tid bit on their desk or other item that catches a trained eye, or they simply slip up In a routine or financial transaction, and then the larger scale Counter Investigation is on. Instead of just a periodic human surveillance for some weeks, it is a full blown human and electronic surveillance. Life just got much harder.
Follow a wanna be spy, and the game is easy. Follow a trained and experienced spy, and the game is hard and the illusions and cover ups is many. Secret messages left in non descript places, quick passes in dark hallways and secluded stairs.
Arm chair quarterbacks need not to dissect, that which they neither know about or understand the fathom of the event.
Intel and counter Intel is extremely mind numbing. And it takes a toll on the mind and body of both partys. The stress exists in the bad guys not getting caught, and the stress exists in the good guys in catching the wrong doers, and building a solid case for a conviction / not messing up legally.
Again, armchair quarterbacks need not apply.

And the FBI and Special Agents of the US Park Police did not detect this?
Story sounds fishy to me. But, I did not write it.
Diane Feinstein is not even close to being a sharp knife. But still, things happen, that I will not discuss further.

You have been watching to much Jason Bourne movies. The law for extermination is pretty much clear cut.
You do the research, I'm not arguing.
Human life is very precious. And we dont want to kill people and find out later they are innocent, were set up, or were acting out of pressure because a loved one was taken hostage or the threat was made against a family member. The target or spy is, or possibly was, acting out of duress.
That's why we have investigations !
To determine the facts, gather evidence, and complete thorough interviews. To assess the circumstances.
God determines life and death, not us humans on earth. Remember that, and remember it well !
Human life is precious and irreplacable !

Her time at the embassy roughly coincides with Obama's years in Occupation, beginning about the time -- 2006-2007 -- that Putin might have begun meddling in US politics to get Obama elected and installed in office.
Whatever Democrats are blaming Trump of doing now would be about what Putin was doing in the 2008 national elections.
Prison for Obama.

Good catch Hanger.....that is some serious shit. It deserves a thread all on its own. Feinstein hates guns. She should be executed with one.
I expect the call to fire and cover up came from much higher than the local level.
It should be expected anytime Democrats are put in charge of things. The mopes will always cover up their incompetence and stupidity. But with shit like this.....they need to pay the price.

Either way the left must be upset that the Guardian set their kind and BO the Peep out like this.
