I have a Dodge made in Canada and a Hyundai made in Kentucky. Globalism isn't going away. It is too embedded.
Culture is the problem. There has never been a successful multi-cultural nation. I'm willing to believe differently if proven wrong. I don't what impact that is going to have the nation-state of the future.
The US is a multicultural nation and I think it is pretty successful. Identity politics threatens that.
We will see what European nations do over the next decades. The Eastern Euros are rebelling against the EU and saying not no but hell no to taking uneducated Muslim migrants. The nationalist parties in Western Europe are gaining power.
I agree with @Peter1469. There's economic globalism and cultural globalism. The economic side is a plus, but the cultural aspect is a big time negative.
Successful as a multi-cultural nation? We have black culture and Latino culture, Southern culture, hill culture and California culture and a dozen more None of them like the others and look down at them.
I'm not talking about political identity I'm talking about culture.
In New Orleans there is a saying about our culture. It isn't a "mixing bowl." It is more like gumbo- the ingredients keep their identity while working together as a whole.
In the US the predominate clash today is left v. right. Cultural differences people different people pale in comparison.
The Mexican restaurant I eat at is run by the Reyes family. Everything there is the real thing, It's not a chain and the owners and employees are all Mexican immigrants. So, yea, I get real Mexican. They make their own products like salsa and taco shells. They only order ingredients, never the finished product.
I've eaten there for twenty years and have gotten to know them. We laugh at some of the "Mexican" places around here. He doesn't serve anything that isn't genuine except the drinks. He said he can't get by without Pepsi and sweet tea. He isn't happy about it but...
Taco Bell is the phony stuff.
