Love that stuff, we called it SOS in the miltary though. I like to cook and it is the small things that make a difference. Take a pack of cheap dolla sto stuffing an add a can of bargain cream of chicken soup instead of water will bring out a great flavor for a better price. Same with some hamburgers, put in a can of cream of mushroom or chicken soup (do not add any water)with around a tablespoon of bacon grease if you are using chuck or round, a few minutes before done and you have a good meal. A cheap soup can be your friend if you let it be.
Good meals don't need to be expensive at all. I agree. Soups and stews allow you to create tasty dishes with relatively cheap cuts of meat and a bunch of root vegetables.
Healthy, warming in the winter, and filling too - a good way to keep the weight down for those of us who have to worry about it.
Yeah - shit on a shingle, on toast.
I'm kinda the same way, loved that Geoff Smith dude (Frugal Gourmet), I have most of his books. Great stuff.
Then they found him messing around with little kids and that all ended fast, but his recipes are fantastic. I think that sausage and gravy - I'm sure of it now, was one of his.
Hot sauce makes everything better.
salsa.... need I say more?
