I'm not so sure they should add Contrast to Negative side. But campaigns are increasingly negative, returning to the negativity seen historically.

Canada has seen a rise in negative advertisements during our election seasons - I remember reading an article about how our election process is being influenced by the US elections. I anticipate that as yours increase, so to shall ours.

Democrats learned to run candidates with no history other than one they wrote themselves. I couldn't believe Sen. Kerry's nomination where he saluted and said, "Reporting for duty." Gov. Bush didn't stand a chance in 2000 running against an incumbent VP and stood even less of a chance against Sen. Kerry.
That said, I'm not sure how much credence I give the Wesleyan Media Project. What is a negative ad is a very subjective assessment.
