I responded to what was posted. I don't read the tea leaves in people's brains. That said, I still think you are wrong as for "bomb mercilessly". Saddam would have then been next door waiting to seize Iran's oil fields, Turkey won't let us launch attacks on Iran from there and to reach the good stuff we would have to go deep into Iran. We may have lobbed some missiles, organized some sort of UN sanctions, embargoed the gulf so no tankers could pass, but it wouldn't be anything akin to shock and awe, let alone even bigger.

"Probably" have more dirt on American politicians, this entire thread a what if scenario. Perfect for your conjecture and guesswork.

The United States was attacked by al-Qaeda, not Saudi Arabia. Harbored by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Hopefully you've learned enough these days to realize these al-Qaeda terrorists were not descendants of the Afghan insurgent groups known as the mujahideen. Nor were they Maoist groups fighting a guerrilla war against the Soviet Army. Al-Qaeda was laser focused on the Arabian Peninsula, in 1996 truck bombs against US troops, 1998 even bolder attacks against US embassies in Africa, tourists killed in Egypt. In 2000, the USS Cole, in 2001, NYC.

Good post. "What if" posts are good fantasies. Mine is "What if pigs could fly?" I could make a fortune using them as drones to deliver bacon and also selling pith helmets to everyone they fly over.

    Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

What if Iran had kidnapped out embassy people and held them hostage for 444 days? Yea, they did and we did nothing to them. Reagan should have bombed the hell out of them with your scenario.

The US political class has been trying to overthrow the Iranian government since 1979. They are looking for any excuse, no matter how flimsy, to make that happen. Had Iran demonstrated the same kinds of connections to 9/11 as Saudi Arabia, the US government would have done everything in its power to destroy Iran. As we speak, the US government is attempting to destroy Syria based on absolutely nothing except pure greed and power-lust. Their rationale for Syria's destruction is the most dubious nonsense imaginable. Clearly they do not need any legitimate reason to unilaterally destroy a country, so imagine how readily they would have destroyed Iran, who they despise almost more than anyone else, if they had an actual, legitimate reason to do it.

It's an intellectual exercise, which explains why you are so put off by them.

Yes, this is a hypothetical. It's meant to stimulate thought.

Iran ejected a foreign occupier who helped overthrow their Prime Minister. They were well within their natural rights.

Thank you for the personal attack. It proves both which of us truly is more intellectual and which has a better sense of humor.

    I love laughing out loud!
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

I pledge allegiance to the Constitution as written and understood by this nation's founders, and to the Republic it created, an indivisible union of sovereign States, with liberty and justice for all.

If we had wanted to overthrow Iran since 1979, we wouldn't have played balance of power throughout most of the 80's during the Iraq-Iranian War. We could have just backed Iraq exclusively and let them be done with it.
