    Elon Musk.

The wife recently watched the documentary about his rocket company and the lofty goal of settling Mars for the survival of the species. I get it, it's a cool goal and we will almost certainly over run this planet like rats eventually.
I just wish they'd include more truth about how long that will take and whom the first settlers will be if the $#@! hits the fan here.

They keep talking about lowering the cost of getting to Mars. But they fail to mention ( at least in the portions I saw) that this cost would be the proverbial drop in the bucket or tip of the iceberg. Long term we would have to teraform a planet, like on Star Trek. Even if we knew how that would probably take centuries at a minimum perhaps millenia to do.
Until then, anyone on Mars would have to live indoors and grow food indoors as well. in an incredibly inhospitable place. Mistakes = death. Furthermore the cost of getting there, getting materials and supplies there and growing food and living inside there would be so prohibitive that only the super rich and connected could go.
I have no problem with Musk getting a spot as it's his company, his innovation and his genius at work. This is what a rich guy REALLY risking his assets looks like. Not some Boss Hogg type investing in the tilted table stock market and only paying half the taxes he should on his unearned income. But who else would go and how many of the peasants dollars would be used to make that happen? Ex-presidents? A sports figure or movie star? A few super models or maybe super hookers? Other billionaires and politicians?
All I'm saying is they need to be truthful.

    1) We want you to support this realizing that it will not occur in your lifetime.
    2) When it does occur it will not help the common man for centuries. Your grandchildren's grandchildren would never know the descendants who got to go.
    3) If this becomes possible and the $#@! hits the fan here, your assets will be stolen to send the connected there.

I'm cool with supporting it as long as we get to revolt when they take our tax money to send others there. Hell even if we were chosen by lottery. Even knowing what I know. Also I am not saying that Musk is deceiving anyone, just that the documentary is avoiding or minimizing certain truths.

    1) Mars is just as, no less than, inhospitable as the Moon. And a lot farther away.

    2) Mistakes will be made. Does it make more sense to make errors with fatal consequences two years away from help when the same lessons could be first learned with help less than three days away?

    6) How many people will be shipped per flight?

    7) How many people are needed to provide a genetically stable original population? (~150).

    8) Who wants to go live...for the rest of their lives...in the equivalent of mud huts on Mars? The best and brightest? No hardly.

    3) we have so far failed to establish a sustainable independent biodome on Earth. We want to do the first one one Mars? What has crazy Elon done along this line of research? (Nothing)

    4) how much of the taxpayer dollar will flow into crazy Elon's pockets on this boondoggle?

    5) What propulsion system has crazy Elon developed to shorten transfer time?
    Freedom Requires Obstinance.

We the People DID NOT vote in a majority Rodent Congress, they stole it via election fraud.

I think they may have said something about a station on the moon, I'm not sure.

We will colonize the moon and Mars. And beyond. It is a matter of not much more time before it begins.

Yes there are dangers and their will be hardships. That is what humans do. Solve those problems.

I agree but how will this be made fiscally feasible and will it be an "only the rich need apply" situation? Or will tax dollars go to "rescue" the few? We are still talking about living and growing food indoors in a hostile setting. We tend to avoid doing that with hostile settings even here on earth. I believe we can do it, I just think it would be millenia before the benefits applied to Average Joe.

What is the dollar number beyond trillions? That is what the minerals in space (moon, Mars, asteroids, and gases in space) are worth.

We only need to house a few people there to mine. With the development of AI over time possibly very few. So the most profit would be from taking the minerals and only housing rich folks who could pay. Profit trumps all!
However, the value of minerals is party based upon their scarcity ... soo.....

I wouldn't bet on this colonization actually happening.
