Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire. ― Gustav Mahler
This thread was started as a serious discussion regarding collectivism. And was so until the usual suspects found it and were able to add absolutely nothing to the discussion other than ridiculous "arguments" with no basis in reality. Since this was my thread I would like to ask Admin to shut it down, its run its course.
I would just point out that the last line of your OP was:
Up to that point, it may have appeared to be an invitation to a "serious discussion regarding collectivism"...but at that point it became just another attempt to label "our leftist posters" as socialist dupes (or evil people) and to challenge them to defend an ideology I seriously doubt that even 1 in 20 believes in.So, which is it for our leftist posters, ignorant or evil?
In other words, a call out thread.
If you think that only "liberals" see the need for taxation, by the way, or that only "conservatives" believe the federal government - government at all levels, actually - oversteps its powers and jurisdiction on a daily basis, then I can only assume that you learned your U.S. history and government from a comic book.

The federal government certainly oversteps its powers as outlined in Article 1, sec. 8, US Const. States do things that I disagree with quite a bit as well, but are those actions outside of their authority? States have authority over Life, Health, and Safety matters- yes that is quite broad. A diligent citizenry must keep close check on their local politicians.

"All forms of socialist are idiots"? That sounds like an argument from a playground or in the halls of a Middle School. Are they "justy dumbheads too?" If so what are we for giving them free rent in our heads for all these decades?
It's another system, it usually doesn't work out well for the people, but can support powerful armies and economies.
True Capitalism, the kind that we used to largely practice, is better.
But neither is inherently "evil" or "dumb". If socialism would cease to be relevant on the world stage like Nazis
I think most people would agree with that assessment; the difference in viewpoint, of course, would lie in what things, exactly, the government is doing that they ought not to be. As a practical matter, the idea that the federal government could ever be reduced to its bare, Constitutionally mandated bones is a total non-starter - a pipe dream and a fantasy, as the Tea Party electees discovered a while back. Too much of what the State does has simply become institutionalized, in some cases many decades ago, and the most conservative legislator recognizes and accepts it, whatever public noises he may make to the contrary. By the same token, the moneyed interests will always influence policy, sometimes to an unjustifiable degree and to the detriment of the people, regardless of who is elected to what office. You're right, of course, that politicians at all levels must be watched, and their words and actions assessed honestly and, to the greatest extent possible, objectively. We have too many partisan cheerleaders right now, too focused on "getting a win for the team" above all else.
