TAX BILL: GOP Plans to Repeal Obamacare Mandate

More bad ideas from a damaged Republic Party. They border on obsessive compulsive. They would throw 13 million people off of their health care insurance in order to lower the top marginal rate from 39.6 to 35 in order to please a small group of rich people.

To help pay for the GOP tax bill, Republican Senate leaders announced Tuesday that they plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act's requirement that Americans maintain health coverage.
The announcement comes one day after President Donald Trump urged Senators to eliminate the Obamacare mandate and use the savings to reduce the top income tax rate to 35 percent, a move that would exclusively benefit individuals earning over $500,000 and couples earning over $1,000,000 under the current Senate bill.
"We're optimistic that inserting the individual mandate repeal (into the tax bill) would be helpful," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters after a caucus meeting.

They just don't get it, do they? Americans do not want the ACA repealed. Period.

Help me understand. If it's what I think it is, it's a good thing.

The mandate, which requires everyone to have insurance or, face paying penalties...no matter what you may call it, it's a penalty..... would be gone? Is that right?

So, to me, that means, it's again up to the individual, if they want/can afford insurance...is that right?

So, how is that, forcing people to go without insurance? If, they are currently paying for insurance, they can just continue, right?.....or, opt to not continuing. Either way, still their choice.

If I'm not reading this right, or, have it all wrong, I'm sure I'll hear about it.

Without the mandate millions would go without having to buy insurance causing the premiums for the insured to rise.

I think the GOP gave the Tax Reform bill the poison pill on this one intentionally by adding in that repeal of the mandate.

I am so sick of DC... both aisles.

Repealing the individual mandate does not cause anyone to lose their insurance. It does, however, help some of the poor people forced to either buy insurance they can’t afford or take a huge tax penalty they can’t afford. The individual mandate was always a poorly conceived part of the ACA and absolutely should be removed.

I tend to agree. This is probably Trump and friends throwing in the towel and going for another heroic symbolic loss to impress the conservative cult.

The same people who opposed the other attempts to neuter obamacare are still there, and none of their concerns have been met.

    You aren't forced.

Did they happen to explain why that would be the case in their letter?
