No. I do not entertain contrived offenses for the purpose of political bullying.

Southern blacks have long respected and defended the Confederate flag for its real symbology. I will not tolerate having that hijacked by the same crowd that bleats faux outrage at entities like the Washington Redskins for their logo.

Hence, there is nothing suddenly wrong with the flag.

Roof posed with the Confederate Flag and posted it on his Facebook page. It's not the fault of the flag and all the people who hold it in high regard because Roof posed with it.

It wasn't until Obama said it was time to get rid of the flag that the lemmings started jumping of the cliff, one right after the other.

And that's fine. Southerners should proudly fly the symbols of their heritage as much as they want. If you go back to my original post you'll see that I stipulated that, drawing a distinction between that and apparent state sponsored acts at state institutions. There is a difference. I think you all are arguing against something that was never said.

Were you aware that after the Confederacy lost and released its slaves that border states that had NOT joined the confederacy STILL had slaves?

If the Confederate flag is wrong, then so is every piece of American history that has an association with slavery. That would include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and even the founding father who designed the US flag.

Its not that the Confederate flag is wrong, as it is an important "document" of our countries history and a source of pride for many Americans. The flying of the Confederate flag at government or quasi government locations though is tantamount to legitimizing what it stands for in the minds of many Americans and is therefore IMO a mistake.

I disagree.

Legislators are not educators, doctors, police, etc. They should not dictate policy for institutions funded by taxes.

Of course they should - if that is what the people wish, as these are the only representatives - bosses - that any publicly funded institution has.

Mississippi is the "poorest" of 50 states and ranks bottom to dead last in almost every other category ranking amongst 50 states.

Yet up in Jackson our legistlature is working on the really important issues to the people like whether State Universities should be forced to display the State Flag.

Mississippi also happens to be the blackest state in the country. Coincidence I'm sure. This is exactly the sort of silliness well meaning but otherwise deluded white folks push to make themselves feel better.
