1st degree would let him walk. 3rd Degree may have been to light under the circumstances, with a conviction being almost as bad as a walk for the aggrieved members of the community. He will be in jail a long time with a 2nd degree conviction.
I wonder if he started out that morning thinking, I know what I will do, I'll kill a perp and start a race war.

It was awful... It shouldn't have happened. Floyd's punishment did not fit his crime, and now, there will be four families devastated by poor decision making. It is awful from any angle you may see it.

What if he isn't convicted? It's happened in the past. Think rioting and looting is bad now?
I think this is right morally, but maybe not legally and maybe not when considering what could happen long-term.
The four officers were fired from the police force almost immediately. That, right there, indicates, they did not act based on the SOP. The no conviction has happened in the past, but also conviction has happened in the past.
There will be a trial and every part will be heard...and there will be a verdict.
