I hear the Supreme Court is taking up a Bill to allow voter-suppression ... what would be the equitable compromise ?

I'm so proud it's coming from my state ... the birthplace of voting rights ...

Supreme Court Review Puts Voting Rights Act in Jeopardy After Election Proves Its Necessity

Agreeing to hear another important case on race in America, the Supreme Court said Friday it will take up a battle over a key part of the landmark Voting Rights Act. Civil rights groups fear the court will use this case to gut the law.

Passed by Congress in 1965 and renewed four times since then, most recently in 2006, a key provision requires states with a history of discrimination at the polls to get federal permission before making any changes to election procedures -- from redrawing congressional district boundaries to changing the locations of polling places.

The law was at the core of the legal cases this year blocking strict new voter ID laws in Texas and South Carolina.

Shelby County, Ala., claims the pre-clearance requirement -- which currently covers nine entire states, 12 cities and 57 counties elsewhere -- is unconstitutional.

    1) Before we raise the debt limit, we must pass a Balanced Budget Amendment.
    2) We agree to raise taxes on the rich if you agree to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
    3) We agree to comprehensive immigration reform including amnesty for all non-felons effective only after we have secured our borders and done a complete census of all illegal aliens followed by a moratorium on legal immigration for 10 years.
    4) A Same Sex Marriage/Right to Life Amendment to the US Constitution (with an exemption clause for religious institutions).
    5) A secure and standard voter registration and identification system for national elections. No open primaries. Rotate state primary schedules.
    Please add to the list.
Sorry, PN, I was so busy with getting Obamacare out on the table, I forgot to address your suggestions. #3 and #5 are absolutely excellent suggestions....and IMO quite do-able.
I think Sheriff Joe Arapiao of Phoenix should be in charge of #3....

Why should we compromise with frauds, criminals, dictators and communists who want to run the entire country? We shouldn't be compromising with them, we should have defeated them.

C'mon you guys....we have 4 years that we need to try to get along; sour grapes and namecalling won't get a damn thing done.

I disagree, CJ....I think talking things out, and coming up with solutions that satisfy at least some of the needs of each party, IS the American way. Note that I did NOT say ass-kissing, or total capitulation. I think both parties, overall, have it in them to be reasonable and work for AMERICA.

I don't think the Voting Rights Act addresses the issue of voter ID. I don't see how voter ID laws "gut" the Voting Rights Act. All the states are still required to meet the requirements of the Voting Rights Act with or without voter ID laws. It is a separate issue.

You're right. In fact, this is one of the few issues where the right can point to laws and customs internationally. Voter ID laws are present in most liberal democracies, and they aren't used to suppress the vote. In fact many of the countries that require voter ID actually have higher average voter turnout rates than the US.

I can read just fine when I am stoned, I know you're not talking to/about me, but I'm just saying.
I would like to be able to smoke marijuana, so if you could work that into your compromise somehow, that'd be great.
You asked for input, that's my input.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I deleted that one because I was being snide. But I don't see how marijuana does fit into this discussion.

The only reason people have died is because it is illegal. Legalize and you instantly remove the criminal element.
