I did not. I'd be interested to read that. Still, I don't use olive oil for health. I just grew up with it.
My grandmother ALWAYS had a 2 gal can of olive oil in the kitchen and she went through it like you wouldnt believe. My uncles always brought her oil my father too. All that lady did from morning to night was cook and clean.\

Oh and put on her black shawl after breakfast and walked to the church and lit candles everyday, then church on sunday

It's a bit sweeter than regular kraut. We usually had it with pork and at Christmas, because it's festive looking.

Someone told me to take a whole head of cabbage and ferment it with the kraut then make stuffed cabbage out of the fermented head. I did, invited my parents over for dinner. My dad almost disowned me, it wasn't stuffed cabbage lol
The flavor balance would have been off.

My mother was first generation Italian American. She used olive oil for only the most special occasions. She never referred to it as olive oil but as "good oil". She grew up during the Depression and you had to save all your pennies so it was Wesson oil for most things and "good oil" for the meat balls and spaghetti sauce for Sunday dinner.

You can get the German stuff without caraway seeds, but I know what you mean. If there is a Polish brand available, I generally choose it. I do like the taste of straight kraut, but I can't eat a ton of it. It's like eating dill pickles. So, when I cook with it, I have to rinse it - lol I even make sauerkraut soup as well as pickle soup.
