    If only the Republican party had thought of that. Oh wait; the GOP wasn't interested in the minority vote. They were confident in the "white" vote, and that's just not going to cut it in this country any more.
    ...again, such gracious winners. Enjoy your smiles while you can.

    I absolutely think it's correct to talk of individual countries, especially Germany, which would be even stronger, if separated from the EU. But basically, the United States is not Europe;

    [But] the key argument made by European officials and other defenders of the euro has been that, because a single currency works well in the United States, it should also work well in Europe. After all, both are large, continental, and diverse economies. But that argument overlooks three important differences between the US and Europe.

    CommentsView/Create comment on this paragraphFirst, the US is effectively a single labor market, with workers moving from areas of high and rising unemployment to places where jobs are more plentiful. In Europe, national labor markets are effectively separated by barriers of language, culture, religion, union membership, and social-insurance systems.

    To be sure, some workers in Europe do migrate. In the absence of the high degree of mobility seen in the US, however, overall unemployment can be lowered only if high-unemployment countries can ease monetary policy, an option precluded by the single currency.
    CommentsView/Create comment on this paragraphA second important difference is that the US has a centralized fiscal system. Individuals and businesses pay the majority of their taxes to the federal government in Washington, rather than to their state (or local) authorities.

    Basically, we need to work with the rest of the world. We are a part of the rest of the world. The US is not a separate and single entity. If we are, we will die alone.

    if separated from the EU.
    Emphasis mine.

    My argument was that is the direction we are headed.

    Free market does that quite well, thanks. Managed markets (social democracy, socialism) don't work, look at Europe, look at us.

    See, that's the problem. I don't necessarily support this past election outcome. I just had a much bigger problem with the only real alternative. The Republican agenda, IMO, is a larger threat to the future of this country. Know what i mean, Vern?

    You seem to have a very hard time understanding English. We do not need violence to take back America. Is that clear enough for you?

    Social democracy seems to work just fine in Switzerland. (I can only point to a nation or two. I know people in those countries and rely on them for real-time opinion and personal experiences.) But, no, i don't think that strict socialist government would work, just as i think that a strictly capitalistic society would serve interests of the general population.

    A hybrid government is what i believe would be the most successful model.
