We should mine the asteroids where they are.
I don't have a problem with mining on the moon.

The origin of the word involves changes in the moon as perceived by the affected individual.

Well, as has been once pointed out, the Moon Is A Harsh Mistress.

It won't be easy and it won't be soon. Remember the "New World" was discovered in 1492 but it wasn't until 1607 that it was settled.

Probably a couple of decades before real mining operations start on the moon.

One thing stands clear with many of our plans . We do NOT learn from our mistakes. At one time the earth, the seas , the atmosphere was to vast to effect with our waste ( in our minds). We were wrong. But we still plan things that fly in the face of that lesson . We simply cannot get that big is not infinite. Must be that high math illiteracy rate we keep hearing about.
My other question would be what are we short on other than REM that we would need to do this? But since Wall Street , banks , politicians and the super rich in general would gain from this it WILL be pursued regardless of the risk.
    So true!

This is Elon Musk we are talking about he slow plays nothing. If he says he will do it he finds a way. they will begin 2020. I am sure they are planning ahead, I bet they are itching to get started. They plan on colonizing mars as well. https://www.usatoday.com/story/opini...umn/649720002/

They also want helium 3 to fire up the Tokamak

You might not have a problem with it now but when we change the density of the moon and it starts to move farther away and the tides stop and earths dynamo slows we will be like AW snap, we are toast! The ocean convection will change weather will change. It would render us mars like. I really hope for us all that it does not happen, but it most likely will though.

They don't think about all potential outcomes before they proceed, rather they just look at the numbers. If the numbers go up they go to work!
