Sounds like "The Obesity Code" may be a more worthwhile book. I believe if people would just eat natural whole foods (no processed foods) they would do much better. I became a vegan 12 years ago so as to maintain good health. My BMI then was about 18 and still is. My goal is to avoid degenerative diseases that often come with aging. The only time I have to exercise a little restraint is with nuts, I just eat a few with each meal.
