Here's why, and please think about it before you answer.

Who wouldn't want nice clean treelined streets? A viable good natured clean shopping available downtown with clean shops free of thuggery and crime. Good clean well maintained public schools that teach the golden rule as much as they teach well rounded and liberally drawn curriculums. Full families with caring parents who don't abuse or abandon their kids. Trouble free full employment for any American who wants it.

The list goes on and on, and I'm sure you get the point. The big problem with all that however is that the right-wing's version of such a society is exclusionary to those who do not have a theocratic world view of extremism and prejudice.

So why hasn't the rest of the country just taken the bull by the horns and built our own "nice society"? That's the $64,000 dollar question.

I want to go back because unlike most of you I was part of that era...and it was great time. Children were raised better because mothers were home with them instead of out working. The dollar was king and everything was much less expensive and the dollar went further. Sure, we just came out of a war and we were rolling in jobs and money and other countries had to rebuild...and the US got rich on foreign sales.
Things are SO different today...the music is garbage, so are the morals and ethics, and every group...no matter what/who they are wants special privileges and they are all getting them. And drugs, we never had them then. Perhaps once or twice some band drummer would imbibe in benzadryl (?) but that's all. The ladies were much more feminine and much more lady like. If you, got a goodnight kiss on the first date...that was considered making out.
So please if you can find a time machine I will gladly get aboard.
