Yes, I agree. I even liken the government as a form of welfare for some civil servants but there are also those who are dedicated and believe in what they are doing. For my part, I have tried to sift through and get rid of the bad employees. Unfortunately, I've only been successful in this goal 4 times and was working on number 5. I got my first EEO complaint filed against me last year (number 5 isn't going quietly). Getting rid of bad employees is very very difficult in the government. I support the president's efforts to change that. I will also say that in my previous removals the union worked hand in hand with me and is currently backing me up on number 5.

I assume you are in management. There is insurance out there that covers managers for possible liability from your actions as a manager. It is very inexpensive and your agency should reimburse you for it.

Wow - you are super knowledgeable on gov't. Yes, I've received the information and am seriously thinking about getting it especially with this current employee. I've never seen her work so hard but she's definitely putting in overtime in working the system! hahahahahaha

In all honesty, it's exhausting and it takes a toll on the supervisors health and reputation because the system is set up to protect the bad employee. That's why so many supervisors don't even bother to try to get rid of the bad employees.

My ex-wife had that problem. She worked for an agency that had the merit based evaluation system and she gave two of her employees 3 marks (instead of 5). Both filed complaints, but one went nuts and said things that should have gotten his TS/SCI pulled immediately.

The insurance is just for peace of mind. If there is labor law litigation the agency will represent you, but if it is a complicated case or what have you, you may not feel the agency is representing you. So if you have the insurance you know that you at least have a labor law attorney there to make sure you are protected no matter what. And like I said, your agency will likely pay for it.

This would be a great opportunity to look for a new job. There are plenty out there.

Thanks T-man. There are certain ethic rules I have to follow regarding outside activities and looking for a job. Otherwise I would be violating government ethics rules. My expertise and background would require that I recuse myself from positions that would make me marketable. It's not as easy as some think.

Of course I guess I could get a job outside of my expertise and make a lot less money........ somehow that doesn't seem so appealing and I doubt you would take less money for what you could offer an employer.

I don’t know of any rule which says a civil servant can’t look for a new job. Especially during a time when one is laid off or on furlough.

There is a lot of sadness in the world. This is your time in the barrel. How many other people have lost their jobs because of Democrat Party policies closing down businesses? How many businesses have closed because of bad economic policies or just piss poor management? I can't work up a lot of sorrow for your cause since you normally work in a sector that is recession proof, lay off proof and ever expanding.

    Certain Agencies have rules. :0p

If I told you which one I work at based on some comments I've posted on other articles I could expose who I am in the real world. I like being incognito here.
