Chief Wahoo -- Should the Cleveland Indians change its mascot / logo?

Should the Cleveland Indians change its mascot / logo? This will be an issue this season. Clevelanders largely say "no" to the name change out of tradition and emotion.

The Native Americans at least represent that kind of fighting spirit. Trump's only relation to physical toil is getting his ass out of his chair.

As I travel around, I can't believe how many high schools and colleges still hold on to their Indian names and logos. Worst I've seen was in Des Moines, some school is the Savages!
I've been to opening day in Cleveland many times, if people are so passionate about changing the logo that they're willing to protest while enduring the elements, derision by drunken fans, etc. maybe they should change it. I hate political correctness and hate to give an inch to the PC police-- but on the other hand it's a small price to pay to give some people a nicer day.

Cant believe I wrote that! In my old age, i find things really aren't all that important as once thought they were.

i admire how you can morph this into a Trump derangement thread!

    You could get pretty close.

Well, maybe not yet, because Trump will get a Supreme Court appointee, but the long and the short of this question is trademark protection. The Redskin's trademark was stricken from the records and will not be accorded protection. Now, if that ruling stands as law, the Indians better take note because otherwise they're going to have a difficult time preventing unlicensed sales of their apparel.

I read a good article on a spoof forum about India suing Native Americans for calling themselves "Indians."

A team calling itself the "Indians" - that I don't see as offensive, and strongly suspect that most Indians don't, either. ("Redskins" is a bit more problematic, even though in the American Southwest of a hundred and fifty years ago it was a name many Indians self-applied, and even today a number of high school sports teams here in Arizona are the "Redskins".)

The Cleveland Indians logo, on the other hand...eh, that has probably outlived its appropriateness.
