Trump Derangement Is Destroying Political Analysis

A look at a new poll out from Monmouth University (.pdf) for what it's worth....

Trump Derangement Is Destroying Political Analysis

Coverage of a new poll out from Monmouth beautifully illustrates how Trump Derangement destroys what should be simple political analysis. The poll was brutal for impeachment fans in the media. Just less than 60 percent of respondents agreed that “people who want Trump out of office should just vote him out next year instead of going through impeachment.” Seventy-three percent have little or no trust in the impeachment process. And 60 percent say Democrats are more interested in bringing down Trump than in learning facts.

Here’s what much of the Twitterverse pulled out of the poll instead:

The numbers on that question for Democrats, which many in the media completely ignored, are even worse.

Trump approvers (43 percent of respondents) were asked if he could do anything that would make them disapprove of him. Of that group, 62 percent said there’s nothing he could do to make them disapprove of his job performance. That’s the question media are focusing on to prove how stupid and tribal those Republican voters are.

But Trump disapprovers (51 percent of respondents) were similarly asked if Trump could ever do anything aside from resigning that would make them approve of his job performance. Guess what: 70 percent of disapprovers said there’s nothing he could possibly do to earn their approval of his job performance.

So if one wants to argue that one party is mindlessly tribal, the numbers clearly show that the anti-Trump Resistance is the most mindless and tribal faction in American politics today....

There is no Trump derangement syndrome anymore than there was Obama or Clinton derangement syndrome. Obviously all people have an element of bias with regards to they oppose politically.

Frankly it's a little lazy to simply dismiss criticism of Trump as TDS. It's no more than ad hom and deflection.

Through his own actions, particularly his childish behavior and psychologically questionable demeanor, Trump has destroyed any credibility he could have.

The problem with this op ed?

its not Trumps policies, it’s his lack of integrity.

It is resentment from the HRC supporters who still can't believe the results of the election. It is no more than that. It started as soon as PA was called. It can't be the lack of integrity because I don't believe most Americans thought it was okay to be spied on by Obama. Obama pleased his supporters and Trump pleases his. The rest don't give a rat's ass.

So called "Trump Derangement Syndrome" absolutely exists. Just look at how a MAGA hat will trigger violence. Was anyone ever assaulted for wearing a "Hope And Change", or "Yes We Can" hat or T-shirt? There are millions of people who basically go into an emotional melt-down at the mere mention of Trump's name.

Obama had the short lived birther thing and that wasn't a predominant position.

Here I thought the left would like an article admits TDS on the right. I suppose it's that it's worse on the left. At least by a poll.

It is suffered by people on the right too. The never Trumpers are mostly Republicans. Of course that doesn't meant they are on the right side of the aisle, but it is far more predominate on the left.

Ooooook. Yah, folks were happy when Obama won.

Before the local smartases waste keystrokes on "whataboutisms" Obama was ALREADY brought up.
At the end of the day...I am still glad that I am me. Tail and all.
