    Southern Baptist Sex Scandal Exposed

ew investigative piece by the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News has revealed an alleged 20-year-long sex scandal within the leadership of several Southern Baptist churches.
According to the investigation, about 380 leaders and volunteers within the church have been accused of sexual misconduct. These allegations came mostly from young men and women, whose experiences reportedly ranged from pornography exposure to rape and impregnation at the hands of church members.

The Chronicle reported that the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) mostly treated these accusations as isolated incidents. Taking an "out of sight, out of mind" approach, the SBC didn't even bother to create a registry so the accusations wouldn't disappear as the abusers moved from location to location. The Chronicle and Express-News were forced to create a database themselves, giving profiles of convicted sexual abusers with documented connections to the SBC.

One of the main subjects of the piece, Debbie Vasquez, said that she was molested by her pastor when she was only 14. This abuse continued for years and resulted in her becoming pregnant at 18-years-old. In 2006, she sued the pastor, Dale Amyx, and the church for sexual molestation.
Amyx didn't deny being the father of her child, but insisted that the sex was consensual. The charges against him were dropped and as of 2016 he remains listed as the pastor of the church.

They need to go. They shouldn't try to cover up like the Vatican did. It won't make things better.

I didn't. Those of us who grew up in that environment have been aware of this type of behavior for a long, long time.

It's all over super fundamentalist type organizations of any stripe.

I have defended many different denominations. It is not only us Catholics. When I was doing that work, I was aware of research that showed that the incidents are at the same percentages in the Catholic church as non-Catholic churches. There's just so many more Catholics.

One main difference between the Baptist and the Catholics is that the Catholics are all tied to a central organization in Rome and ultimately the priesthood is all one unit. This is not true with the Baptist and the Southern Baptist Convention does not have authority over the individual churches that may be part of the organization. Pastors are not appointed or moved to another church. Each church elects and/or hires its own pastor.

The only common thread between the Catholic Church and the Baptist Denomination is all of the Clergy are men, human men, with human frailties and the bad apples are far and away in the minority of all the clergy within each group.

These are the same ones who will criticize us that doesn't allow Sunday School (not Biblical) where children are separated away from their parents, that will turn a person in to authorities if they mess with kids, or that demand a pastor step down if he no longer qualifies to be one according to Christ. Every Church is going to have reprobates trying to blend in. He didn't say if He said when. I have said it before it's not just a Catholic problem but you don't help things allowing reprobates as pastors, don't go by the qualifications God said, and women are not suppose to be pastors.

You cannot say that with any authority or source of fact. It's just a notion you have.

    Paul was not Jesus.

No a lot of these Baptist ones has committees over them that decide what parts of the Bible can be preached. Most of the members on this are not even saved they just have influence or money. So if he says something they disagree with even if it's Biblical they will have him removed. They allow these to be over instead of God and His word. The United Methodist is worse today.
