$65 million seems pretty excessive to me. It's much more than that family owned bakery could be expected to make during the lifetime of the current owners.

Sell off college land and buildings. Fire professors and administrators.

Punitive damages do not correlate to actual loss. Punitive damages are to insure the actions of the college are not repeated. About twenty years ago a new BMW owner discovered his car had been repainted because of some issue with the paint. He sued BMW and collected several million dollars. Obviously his financial loss did not come close to this award but the award was to send a message.

I personally would think that everything the college owned or would ever own should go to the bakers. The college, totally without cause, set out to ruin the reputation of the baker.

Tens of millions to repay hundreds of thousands?

No. It's excessive. I remember the BMW thing too, if I recall correctly it was a much more reasonable amount after the appeal.

Well, Crepitus, not a problem. Sell off college land and buildings, and fire professors and administrators, as ECB suggests. The college obviously has just about nothing to do with reality in their fake courses and dilusional programs. What's the problem, Crepitus?

Do you really think the road to social harmony lies at Oberlin?

I don't see where "racism" played any part whatsoever in the incident at the bakery. Oberlin is a nuthouse; always has been.

For Oberlin to claim an attempt to stop a black shoplifter racist is absolutely disgusting.

    The school should be abolished.

clear out admin and turn it in to a 5 star hotel. Professors who encouraged this crap would be offered jobs in house cleaning and grounds keepers.
A little touch of reality is all it takes.

It is meant to be a penalty and a deterrent. No fair minded and reasonable person should be upset with this judgement.

They'll probably settle for $10MM eventually.

They're never ever gonna see $65MM
