    Automation

How far do you think technology can go for humans before society no longer works? Or do you think other aspects can be altered to make it work (and the likelihood that it'd be done/done in time)? Dad and I were discussing supermarket self-checkouts and Little Cesar's pizza pickup lockers, and wondered what entry-level jobs will be left. Besides that consideration, jobs/lifestyles requiring less physical activity and high stress contribute to chronic and society-wide health issues, and less socialization. I think we'll have to compensate in our schools- start teaching skills/trades/tech earlier, put a focus in Phys Ed about lifelong social and individual activities, and make people more knowledgeable about local, state government, and their specific community (volunteering opportunites, recreation, places for assistance).

Thats a good question and the answer is that you have to learn a trade or go to college for a specialty profession, mere 4yr degrees BA, BS will become a dime a dozen.

Automation was frightening to labor in the early 70s. For example in the brewery forever they washed and sanitized half kegs manually..they put in a automated keg washer and what took 14 men now took 2 thats per shift around the clock 7 days. They used to change filters manually every afternoon shift took 20 men...they ripped out the entire side of the building and put in a self cleaning filter system designed in Germany put almost a 100 men out of work...that was only 1 brewery...the 70s saw alot of automation...then the corporate exodus to china...and now robotics

The USA job force will never be the same...I dont know how ALL young americans are going to make a living...maybe thats why they want to socialize so they dont have to worry about working and think they can live off the rich that will pay for everything...I dont see that working either....

You already see technology replacing low labor jobs. That is also a good thing because we actually need more people (pre-Covid) for more skilled jobs and workers want the higher wages that go with them.

There was a time when 90% of the US population worked on farms or supported farms. They found new jobs when times changed. We will do so again.

The guy that is complaining about his fast food wages can walk upo to my shop and get a job at $17/hr.
He has to pass a drug test.
He has to be willing to show up to work every day and put in a fair effort
He has has to be on time
He has to have very basic reading and math skills. We will train him for the rest.

We just put in an ad for 3 more people due to retirements.

The reason they make minimum wage and don't walk up to our shop is because they cannot do those things.

This debate has been going on for centuries, and somehow we never run out of jobs. #buggywhips
