Wouldn't that just be akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic? Eliminating welfare and instituting the UBI may or may not save money, but it doesn't do anything to eliminate the dependent class. It's just changing the means of dependence.

It's a needed first step. It would end up firing a lot of the useless federal employees we have. We could phase out UBI a few years later.

Frankly, I think the odds of even UBI getting passed with the elimination of the current welfare state are pretty low as it is. We do seem to be stuck with the current system.
