Note, please, Gillum ran an excellent campaign devoid of racist code words and racist robocalls. He accepted defeat with class. Other than Martha McSally, can you name any other Republican who did so?

Andrew Gillum, the socialist Democratic gubernatorial candidate from Florida, has officially lost the race to Republican candidate Ron DeSantis. Some of Gillum's most ardent supporters say that he lost because he's black and Florida's voters are racist. These same people forget that Barack Obama, America's first black president, won the state twice in 2008 and 2012.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, folks like Judy Beck are positive that had Gillum been a different skin color, then he would have won the race. "Andrew Gillum would have won if he were white," said Beck, a St. Petersburg retiree and registered Democrat.


Even a state senator, Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, claim the election came down to racism.

"I'm not one to call racism unless I smell it, feel it, touch it, walk with
it," Rouson said. "But there are many who would argue, and make good points, that racism did have a role."


This narrative falls apart though when looking at simple exit polls from the election. If white people voting against Gilum due to his skin color were to blame for his failure, then how do these Democrats explain the voting behavior of Florida's black population.

Let's be honest with each other; both sides pull the same crap every election year and it never changes. If the democrats had won, the republicans would have said the election was rigged or stolen or whatever else was convenient.

No one likes losing (it's a form of rejection which many humans have trouble dealing with) so they come up with a reason as to why they lost to make them and their voting base feel better. At least that's what I believe.

Either way it's over and done with, so everyone just relax, accept the results and prepare for 2020.
