It is understood that union endorsements simply reflect the preference of their majority, not any unanimous opinion.
And it's understood a company letter from the boss is just that, the boss's opinion.

The boss has the ability to fire you (and, in the cases highlighted, can very easily be interpreted as threatening to) if the election doesn't go his (or her) way and also the ability to force you to participate in pro-Romney rallies without pay.

You've never answered the question how the boss would know.

The OP letter simply says the boss believes another 4 years of Obama would drive them out of business. How you stretch that to the boss threatening to fire someone is beyond me. Stretch that rubberband any further it will snap.

I don't have to answer your inquiry because the boss doesn't have to know how you vote! The threat is in what will happen to you (i.e. what they will "be forced to" do to you) if the election OUTCOME goes "the wrong way". That is pretty clear pressure to vote a certain way. Hence the thread title.

A company is not in the box with you when you vote. I have always refused to tell what side I was voting for in an company atmosphere. To be honest it's done of their business.

    Exactly.

Polly, all you've got is employers influence employees. What, should we end all marketing of politics? Should we close down the forum!?

I went through that in 2004. I was working for a very conservative company, and many of the brass were going around asking people who they were going to vote for, and pressuring them to vote for Bush.

I didn't care for it at all.

I don't care for it at all either, whether they advocate Dems or Reps, but it's not coersion as polly wants to insist on.

Would the owner of a coal mine be wrong to tell his employees that Obama wants to kill coal? It is true. Obama said it several times and is in the process of shutting mines and factories down.
