    Jim you would be surprised. It may be more than you want to mess with but I doubt it would be over your head. Many of these videos are made by people who are just learning the stuff, and they tell you that. So consider that these people were clueless and they are doing it. You are a bit older and have a little wisdom in you.

    Honestly, for me... I am used to this stuff and I have been messing with it for a long time. I have CNC experience on everything from lathes to water jets.

    This type of machine is on the simple side and you can actually put a Corel drawing im and engrave it. As far as the actual program? It will look something like my 3d printers program but only one layer.

    This new stuff works off of vector, raster or both and software converts your image to Gcode.

    Actually this will be much easier than the 3D printer.

    Yes, but no as well. It would not be efficient and the effectiveness, after unwarping the metal would be... well, ineffective. I could get a larger laser but those are not all that good at engraving and etching.

    Gotta get me a plasma cutter. That 4 and half inch angle grinder is tedious, better than a hacksaw though, keep us updated on the laser!

    Yeah I was cutting a circle out of 50% perf 304 with one today... 16 GA, no fun.
