U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland provided testimony to Congress Wednesday affirming a quid pro quo for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to secure a meeting and phone call with President Trump.

Ambassador Sondland's testimony confirms two things very, very clearly. First, that Trump's personally motivated quid pro quo scheme was not a secret - lots of people knew about it, including the Ukrainians, and knew about it long before the infamous phone call. Second, that no one who was in the loop on the scheme had the cojones to warn Trump that what he was in the process of doing was an unprecedented and indefensible abuse of the power of his office. Anyone who can listen to Sondland's testimony and come away with any other conclusion was not listening very closely.
